I love seeing Saint John!

How has the city been faring economically as of late? It seems that a city with this depth of history and established urban fabric, a future population of 250,000-300,000 would look really good on it. Saint John deserves to grow and feature more prominently in the profile of Canadian cities, in my opinion.

An aside - being born and raised in Saskatchewan, I can confirm that my elementary education drilled into me the distinction between Saint John, and St. John's, and that it was NEVER St. John and NEVER Saint John's. There was some prior discussion in the Canada forum that people in other parts of the country get this wrong a lot, so I thought I'd throw in my personal experience.

Same here as far as the naming differences go!

I think they have been faring relatively well as of late. They have opened a new LNG terminal and I think have plans for a couple more resource transhipment facilities. Plus they just got a proposal for a gorgeous ultra-modern tower including the conversion of a centuries-old cathedral. They have also completed a few well-done projects lately such as their new cruise ship terminal, a large new Justice Centre (primary courthouse), and a 6 storey condo building right along the waterfront of the cruise port.

Timeless! I'm hoping for this area to get a bit of the growth and add a few more towers to the surroundings.

I've always wondered what the zoning regulations are in Westmount in terms of height restrictions. It would be really cool if they allowed something really tall that Montreal would find appalling outside of the "tall" zoned part of downtown.

They tried building other highrises around westmount square, this is what turned up:

Otherwise, the space around the square is filled out. And don't expect the residents of westmount to support an other highrise when the bulk of the hood is made up of streetscapes like these

No reason they couldn't redevelop part of this (rather ugly) strip. Not only are there several other highrises in the immediate vicinity, but it's basically right beside Atwater metro station. I'm thinking a mixed use 155m tower with 10 floors of office and 35 floors of residential.

That is beautiful. With Mount Royal rising up in the background and the buildings on the slopes, it looks very urban and cool.

^Awesome pic! Sherbrooke looking great in that one. Add a few 8-10 storey buildings in that core and Sherbrooke could really kick some butt and have a nice dense downtown.
