Yes it does eerily feel like this building is doomed to either be demolished, or be put in perpetual shadow when the development beside this new development finally gets underway as well.

Like that one movie about the metallic aliens that visit in that tiny house between the 2 skyscrapers from like the 80s

The Textile Building will never get demolished. Have you ever been in it? It's beautiful.

Have you ever been in half the beautiful buildings that hamilton has demolished? That's not a factor when they demolish them. Hamilton demolished the 2 largest most beautiful opera houses in the entire country in hamilton.

It is a travesty that so many beautiful buildings were demolished. We need to ensure that that do stand remain standing. I personally don't think the Textile building will be torn down, but I am annoyed how this build was designed in a way to assume it would be. It shows that he either does not care about heritage buildings, or has no interest in the surrounding context.

In my home town (Quebec city) there are so many historic building (400 years) that it is now a problem for the city growth because they're all protected and cannot be demolished.

I think it's okay to keep historic building, but at the same time we should not block a city from evolving because it has history.

And on cue. LRT sabotages a good photo post with more substanceless NIMBY garbage.

Never fails, like a broken record.

Thanks for sharing the photo david. Looks good.

I like hamiltons new outlook like with the william thomas building - if you demolish you have to at least keep the facade - toronto did similar. It was actually a recommendation by queen elizabeth's husband apparently back in the day when he came to toronto when they weren't sure what to do with all the old crumbling buildings - he said keep the facade and build a condo on top.

I do really like the fusion of the old with the new - I think it's the perfect way to keep character in a town while still modernizing it. People don't generally come to see glass buildings, they come to see heritage, but it still allows you to build up and add density - best of both worlds.

Also a fusion of stone and glass looks really cool - look at the courthouse downtown - muuah - beautiful, detailed craftsmanship with modern glass accents.

It's what I fear the most in this age - the death of craftsmanship.

Ummm, every piece of that smart-aleck post I made is taken verbatim from NIMBY Durand meetings over the last couple years - the sun will be blocked months at a time, nobody will be able to see anything anymore, people will start leaving the city if we go higher than the escarpment, and the list goes on....these are word for word quotes. Let's sit back and wait for all their predictions to come true.

I wish I could take credit, but it's not mine. It is an awesome photo.

Here's a few more new ones from the same photographer...

Be nice to the Ellen Fairclough building. I like it. It just needs some street level love.

It needs a lot of love. The stretch of King from James to Bay isn’t built for pedestrian traffic at all.

Also, why do you like the building? What’s the appeal? I’m curious to what you think.

I love the Fairclough (other than the horrendous street level).

On a bright note, looking at that rather drab skyline, it's great to see that 2 of our best high-rises are the 2 newest ones. Let's hope the trend continues!

I agree. I don't get the appeal of it, personally.
