I think it's okay to keep historic building, but at the same time we should not block a city from evolving because it has history.

I like hamiltons new outlook like with the william thomas building - if you demolish you have to at least keep the facade - toronto did similar. It was actually a recommendation by queen elizabeth's husband apparently back in the day when he came to toronto when they weren't sure what to do with all the old crumbling buildings - he said keep the facade and build a condo on top.
I do really like the fusion of the old with the new - I think it's the perfect way to keep character in a town while still modernizing it. People don't generally come to see glass buildings, they come to see heritage, but it still allows you to build up and add density - best of both worlds.
Also a fusion of stone and glass looks really cool - look at the courthouse downtown - muuah - beautiful, detailed craftsmanship with modern glass accents.
It's what I fear the most in this age - the death of craftsmanship.
