P.s. I would support selling off the salt palace if it were to be ripped down... Never liked it never will... Just my opinion

what would you like in its place? Where would you have the new Salt Palace go?

There are a lot of possibilities... A mix of buildings, retail and whatnot... Maybe even the return of Japan town in some capacity... One thing I would want for sure is for 100s and 200 west to be fully opend... No more merged blocks.

As for a new salt palace my first idea would be to allocate all of the land between 400 & 500 west running from north temple to 500 north. 300n could remain a through street via underpass or sky bridge. The tracks and i15 already create a barrier... Might as well build a barrier structure right along it.

500-600 could be parking or a future expansion

What would you do with the Salt Lake Hardware building?

Sorry my response is a little late but I had a conversation with Ben McAdams at a fairly recent campaign event about the convention center hotel. He is generally supportive of the idea. Obviously he is concerned about what risk(s) is the county taking. He said he wanted to be careful about the plan but that he thinks that it could be done. I think Mark Crocket is a nice guy but I don't think he's half the leader that Ben McAdams is.

The barcyles hold up to 16 people, that do the pedaling, and one driver to steer and brake (provided by the company). They currently have two routes for a bar crawl, downtown and east, and downtown and south.

No, not currently. It's just a way to transport from bar to bar.

I kind of like the debate. It's entertaining, and it brings out facts and figures. However, the debate about proximiy to resorts, etc. to convention center is by far in favor of SLC. The Wasatch Mountains are "in your face" close. Whereas the Mountains to the west of Denver don't rise up as dramatically and the major resorts are mostly two or more hours away. Most of the major resorts in Utah are less than an hour away.

And the hotel numbers for downtown are not up to date!

Also, Eldora and Echo Mountain are both closer than 65 miles! Your batting average is not very good today!

Here is the wiki for your non-largest though in case you needed to brush up!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powder_Mountain
That's funny, the link you mentioned shows that the Utah resort is the largest.

I got the hotel info from Denver Colorado Tourist & Vacation Information, I'm pretty sure they have up-to-date info on Denver hotels.

Oh, okay, so Eldora is 55 miles and Echo is 56 miles. All of the websites I saw said Loveland was the closest at 65 miles.

Being used to the Wasatch Mountains literally towering over the Salt Lake Valley, I was shocked on my first visit to Denver when I was 21. I couldn't see any mountains anywhere. I finally found them so far off in the distance, you could barely see them.

A nice piece in the SL Trib Opinion Section, written by Lane Beattie.

Time for the downtown theater

I made the mistake of reading the first page of comments.

Funny you mention this because I have recently been trying to decide whether to get a permanent job (as in a career) in Salt Lake City or in Denver. I went to Denver and I do have to say that I did downtown Denver a lot more than Salt Lake. However, what killed me was how far away the mountains were. In most places where I drove you couldn't even see them, and if you could, they looked like hills on the horizon. I love the outdoors and the proximity to the mountains in SLC definitely sold me on staying here over moving to Denver.

HURRAH for Salt Lake City! Our win. We'll keep you, even if you did consider defecting.

Anyway...

I know a lot of people don't like Lotus, but I think it's going to contrast well with the 1960s-era modernist IBM Building and the older, historic apartment complex. Diversity! YAY!

I'm also a fan of architectural variety, but South Temple has its own historic charm, feel, ambiance, what have you. I think the old design melded better with that charm. But the Lotus is a nice building regardless.

Republicans hold the key to vote on city’s mega-theater, or in other words, not likely to happen:
