I think its slightly too high, but even still, all of the people who said this tower will block their view of the streets surrounding the ESB and the skyline view from it will feel like fools.

I hate to disagree with you NYguy, but I think it's the perfect height because at 1,216 feet it will be taller than the Bank of America Tower, yet still shorter than its notable neighbor, the Empire State Building.

Also, not to get into the whole spire debate, but I'd be UBER pissed if this one were 1,100 some odd feet (especially if it were to be 1,198 feet) because it would technically be shorter than the Bank of America Tower because it won't have the massive bulky spire beyond the roof to add more height. At this height, it will also help the Bank of America Tower be in a ranking it deserves in skyscraper ranking (in terms of its number in height compared to other skyscrapers whether it is in NYC or worldwide. Don't get me wrong, I absolutly love the Empire State Building, Bank of America and Chrysler Building...

What I meant was that the drawing in that pic was a little too hight. But even still, it show how little this tower would block the views from the ESB observation deck.

I wouldn't mind if this tower were a couple of feet shorter than the BofA spire though. In fact, they could build more towers under that height, and point it out to the NIMBYs, who would be confused anyway... But this one could be either higher or lower, depending on a lot of things.

More people jump on the radio wave storyline...

Will Vornado's 15 Penn Plaza Disrupt Empire State Building's FM Airwaves?

I'm in your houz, stealing you wavz.

It appears the fight over 15 Penn Plaza is not yet over. Vornado's 1,216-foot Rafael Pelli-designed skyscraper on the Hotel Pennsylvania site, has already rocked the skyline, and now it is hitting the airwaves.

The Real Deal spotted a funny story in Radio World about how the city's broadcasters are worried over the impact the slick new tower might have on transmissions from the Empire State Building's spire.

Perhaps broadcasters could move back downtown to One World Trade Center, once the city's tallest-building-to-be is complete. If they did, though, it would be yet another blow to the struggling Empire State Building.

No, no it won't. Now build it.

Such a ridiculous argument, just move everything over the the WTC, then rent the office space out in ESB, it's pretty simple.

Minority hire deal at tower

By DAVID SEIFMAN
October 17, 2010

Quote:
A Zoning change al lowing Vornado Realty Trust to build one of the city's tallest skyscrapers across from Penn Station includes a side deal for minority hiring that's causing consternation among real-estate executives who see it as a worrisome precedent.

It is also causing some consternation within Mayor Bloomberg's office, where one official said the first he learned of it was when The Post called late Friday.

"The mayor generally doesn't approve of these community-benefits agreements," the official said.

Over at the City Council, where the deal was put together, officials said it's quite possible that the mayor was in the dark about the concessions legislators extracted from Vornado since he had nothing to do with them.

Developers on major projects often negotiate side deals to avert problems with the local community.

In this case, the locals were the City Council.

Over the objections of the owners of the Empire State Building, the council voted 47-1 on Aug. 25 for a rezoning change so Vornado could erect a soaring 1,200-foot tower on the site of the Hotel Pennsylvania that would rise just 254 feet below its famous neighbor.

Once the rezoning was green-lighted, Vornado agreed that at least 15 percent of the total value of the construction contracts would go to women- and minority-owned firms. The same 15 percent floor was set for "soft costs," such as architecture, legal, engineering, insurance and bonding.

One insider said the 15 percent figure was higher than usual and the inclusion of the "soft costs" was unprecedented.

"What was the legal basis for demanding that?" asked one real-estate source.

"What's the legal basis for enforcing it?"

Councilman James Sanders (D-Queens), who took part in the Vornado negotiations, called those concerns misplaced.

He vowed that the developer's feet wouldn't be held to the fire if targets aren't met in a good-faith effort.

"This is as flexible as you can get," Sanders said. "No one wants to straitjacket business, especially in the recession that exists now."

At the behest of this website's ownership, I'll be taking care of the diagram for this one. This might mean a 3D model for y'all to gawk at, but just don't expect something like my 1WTC, I'll be doing both versions and to cover all bases, but the models themselves will be fairly simple.

Apparently not everyone is aware of that one, but it's next to the last level up at the ESB

October 25, 2010, 11:09 AM ET.A Reduction in Manhattan Office Space.

By Peter Grant

The glut of Manhattan office space that was dumped on the sublease market in the wake of the financial downturn is being absorbed.

Sublease space almost tripled to 16.4 million square feet during the recession’s darkest days, according to CB Richard Ellis. But the overhang had been reduced to 11.2 million as of the end of the third quarter.

Some of the sublease space has been taken by other tenants. But much of it has simply been pulled off the market by businesses that had been worried about the future but are now feeling they might need it for expansion, says Howard Fiddle, vice chairman of CB Richard Ellis.

Ramin Talaie for The Wall Street Journal
JP Morgan Chase has leased most of the sublease space it had available at 277 Park Ave.
