Funnily enough, I think 70 Rainey right across the street is the
only great example in Austin of a developer showing lots of plants and greenery in renderings, then actually following through. Even otherwise pretty decent buildings like the JW Marriott and Austin Proper were guilty of advertising a lot more greenery than they followed through with.
For all that there are plenty of plants that can't stand being in the Texas sun all summer, there are plenty that can -- even if they aren't hanging vines. If 70 Rainey can figure it out, I don't see too much reason why 700 River and others can't either, other than it always being the first thing value engineered out of designs.
