The finished product somehow looks worse. There is zero landscaping or fencing of any kind past that corner. The ground entrances on the main floor of the second building to the right open right onto a patch of sod a meter wide and then the sidewalk.

That's ugly, it looks like 60's Mississauga planning. While I appreciate the mix in housing, those townhouses need a proper backyard, not an elevated patio above a garage....that's a terrible place to have a barbecque or a beer in the sun.

I'm not sure why they left some of those townhomes with white facades, they look unfinished and well, off-putting. I think the facades are unfinished, so I think I'm wrong.

I'm glad other people hate The Rooms too! It honestly just seems weird and out of scale compared to the rest of the city (was that the point?). I just think it distracts from what is otherwise one of the most beautiful urban settings in Canada.

The white is the finished product. It looks worse than the u/c pics.

Speaking of Edmonton it sounds like the Talus Dome sculpture was damaged by fire crews needing to rescue a man who got stuck inside.

I actually kind of like this place. I was always confused as to why it's called Pickering Village but it's one town over in Ajax.

^Despite now being in Ajax, Pickering Village is actually one of the original settlements in Pickering Township and was known as such since the mid 1800s. It only became part of Ajax in the 70s when Upper and Lower-tier municipalities were designated. My mom refused to believe it was technically in Ajax when I told her.

Having spent a lot of time in Pickering/Durham Region as a kid I don't mind it either. There's actually a number of actual historic buildings nearby. Also the back end does face the street properly: https://goo.gl/maps/fM1mvUjdFScYRgYD8

Went to some lounge there almost 20years ago. I’m a fan of Tudor style. Wish there was more to this place. Reminds me of another plaza in nearby Whitby in the sense of being unconventional architecture for here that is tastefully done. Like the second storey balcony but wouldn’t want to be the one maintaining it in the winter.
