Yep, 800 or 820m won't really make a difference in the overall look

And if it turns out to be taller than that, it would most likely be due to the use of a longer spire, a la the Chrysler Building. In other words, just a way to keep any WTB contenders at bay.

Someday we'll know. . . but yeah. . . my theory is that the 818m figure is correct from sea-level. . . the 808m figure would be from base of the building and used as the 'official' height. . . but again. . . that's my theory based upon the evidence we've seen so far. . .

With the current enhancements we are bringing in the latest in quality considerations that will keep Burj Dubai truly exclusive.
Well then I guess that excludes me.

Hi all.

The 818.0 height is the height of the plans measured from the floor of the ground level to the floor of the platform at the top of the structure. The floor of the ground level is 11.5 m. above the Dubai Municipal Datum and 15.25 m. above the raft. The DMD is some 1 meter above sea level AFAIK.

The official measure when it is completed could be :

1 - 818.0 - as the plans say.

2 - 819.1 - from the floor of the ground level to the top of the handrail around the top platform - a permanent part of the structure.

3 - 824.0 - from the floor of the concourse level to the floor of the top platform. There is 3 entrances on different sides of the structure all at different levels. One is at level 1 - 4 m. above ground level, another is at the ground level, and the other is at the concourse level - 6 m. below ground level. The grade is at those levels for each so the concourse level could be a legit starting point for the height.

4 - 825.1 - from the floor of the concourse level to the top of the handrail around the top platform.

I think sticking to the numbers in the plans is prudent for the time being.

Current height is 656.1 m - floor of the ground level to the top of the second section of tier 19.

Here is a small section of the Ground Level. You can see Grd, 0.00 el, and +11.5 el DMD.

Here is a print of the top platform. You can see 818.0 for the floor of the platform and a total of 1.10 for the handrail height.

Here is 2 pics I cooked up showing the different levels of the 3 entrances.

Here is 2 pages of my BD Plan showing the elevations of the lower levels. The info is collated from plans, prints, and charts and is very accurate.

Happy ??

While I am happy for you that you went to Dubai and saw the structure there is some among us peons that actually know what we are talking about and some that know far more than others.

I still say 680M roof + 120M max spire,God only knows how they will get that thing up there. I predict trouble, and cost will force a smaller spire.

- They have an elaborate plan to jack the spire into place.

Hi all.

Another milestone of sorts - top of tier 19 - 662.5 m.
Tier 20 will begin with a terrace facing 120 degrees.

Here is confirmation that the steel tier heights are sticking to the plans. I was reading through some PDF's and one on the tower cranes has an interesting bit of info.

The mast sections for the Favco cranes are 4.000 m. high. Each has 2 "sections" 2 m. high so it makes it easier to compare with the tier heights.

The masts are supported at the top of each tier ( so far ) so that also makes it easy to see the tier heights.

Thanks to Imre for the pic.
