I assume the construction of downtown dubai and the metro has had a detrimental effect on the business of Dusit hotel.
This reminds me of my business trip back in February. Had a meeting in one of the office towers on Sheikh Zayed Road and only 3 floors were occupied with business tenants. The rest of the floors were still vacant.

There really is too much supply.

Cypherus, do you happen to remember which building it was? If it was new, then maybe most companies had not moved in yet. But I do aggree that there might be too much supply for both residential and commercial. But, prices are still rising throughout Dubai, so maybe demand is higher than supply?

That's surprising about the office and hotel buildings. Generally hotels in Dubai are packed, I'd be more worried about the insane amount of res towers more than anything else.

Hi all.

I have re-worded my Tier Methodology so it is easier to understand the terraces / roofs of the wings. I also saved it in PDF format as not all have Word.

Bikes has kindly updated his site with the new version. Go to www.burjdubaiskyscraper.com and have a look around as it is THE best site out there for Burj Dubai info and pics. See the facts page for my stuff and many others' contributions.

How much taller is Burj Dubai on a hot day at 45 deg C than on a cool day say at 10 deg C (due to thermal expansion of the concrete and steel)?

Apparently the CN Tower in Toronto is 2 inches taller on a hot day than on a cold day, but I think Toronto has wider temperature extremes than Dubai (Dubai is always warm, Toronto can be hot or cold)

In the desert it tends to get very cold at night. I don't know about Dubai but it has to drop some at night.

actually yes it does during winters , especially the last two ! but since Dubai is located near water surface it doesnt tend to drop to zero .... it has dropped to -2 this winter in al ain , but thats because its deep in the desert (an oasis city if you like)

who knows what next winters will bring

There is no effect on the business of Dusit Hotel.

The reason for the empty restaurant might be the timming, but anyway Dusit it is not known to have any sought after culinary destination in town. There are other places to go for a bite or drink.

What's this thing? I've never heard of it before. Will it be taller than my apartment?

Sure. . . but wouldn't the tower look pretty stunted if it didn't come to some logical apex???

Absolutely, I agree. They could just stop building it now and it would serve its purpose perfectly, but it wouldn't be very aesthetically pleasing.

And I think we can all agree that, once completed, it will be some eye-candy!

Is it true that the tower is too tall for the concrete to pump up so the upper floors are steel?
