Dh20,500 sought from Burj jumper
By Bassam Za'za', Senior Reporter
Published: May 29, 2008, 00:10

Quote:
Dubai: Burj Dubai is seeking temporary compensation of Dh20,500 from a British visitor who jumped off the 150th floor of the tower with a parachute strapped to his back on April 25.

The Public Prosecution said the suspect entered the tower secretly.

Adv Samir Jaafar represented Burj Dubai before the Dubai Court of Misdemeanor, where the man, identified only as D.G., pleaded guilty yesterday.

Burj Dubai owners will decide on permanent compensation soon.

"I skydived from Burj Dubai because it's the world's most beautiful and tallest tower. I didn't have permission, but I trespassed because I knew I would not get permission," D.G. said in his statement.

20,500 AED = 5,581.42 USD
20,500 AED = 3,566.834 EUR
20,500 AED = 2,820.605 GBP
20,500 AED = 585,227.21 JPY

Burj worker crushed to death

Burj worker crushed to death

by Lynne Roberts on Thursday, 29 May 2008

A construction worker on the world's tallest building has died after being crushed by a heavy exterior panel, Dubai developer Emaar said on Wednesday.

Qiwen Li was killed on May 20 after suffering multiple injuries when the panel, used to attach part of the Burj Dubai's exterior cladding, fell on him, UAE daily The National reported.

He was taken to hospital where he died on the same day, Emaar said. An inquiry into his death will be jointly conducted by Dubai police, Dubai Municipality and Emaar.

According to Emaar, the man was an experienced worker who had attended a safety induction programme and daily sessions held to maintain safety standards.

“Emaar has put in place internationally accepted procedures in ensuring safety at the worksite. Apart from stationing safety officers at all work sites, it is mandatory for workers to wear safety gear and attend daily safety briefings,” a spokesman said.

The incident is the second reported fatality on the construction site of the Burj Dubai after a worker fell to his dealth from the tower last June.

i think burj is about one mile behind the weird tower in the foreground. and even in this distance it's absolutely huge! the weird thing is about 150m high and it looks sooo small compared to the burj....and it's spire will even be out of this picture!

The two buildings are actually separated by .99 kilometres (.62 miles).

The name of the building in front is Dusit Dubai (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=...darabemirates). It was completed in 2001 and has a height of 153 metres (502 feet) with 40 floors. It is an all-hotel building operated by Dusit, a Thai hotel chain.

Hi all.

See how close the metro line is to the Dusit ? Not sure how happy the owners are about that.

I feel sorry for the owners of Dusit hotel. Booked a table in one of the restaurants on a thursday night, turned up and there wasn't a single sole dining in the restaurant - we eventually left.

I assume the construction of downtown dubai and the metro has had a detrimental effect on the business of Dusit hotel.

That's a nice picture of it. Nice to see blue sky instead of the usual gray.

It is not maglev. It is just a usual metro system with a third rail.
