Hein is nothing particular to Canada. It's used in Europe too. It's thought of as not very educated. I had to call a CLSC in Victoriaville recently. The expressions the receptionist was using threw me off. It feels like it’s too much asked to use more formal language when you interact with the public nowadays.

I admit that I often get mixed up with what's local and what isn't, like "prendre une marche" or "tomber en amour". (Both from this side of the ocean, I know.) Especially since people from France or other francophone countries generally pick them up immediately when they move here.

Correct. There does not appear to be any scenario where the Liberals and Québec solidaire, the two parties most favoured by Montrealers like Gunnar (I assume) have a chance of forming a government in the coming years.

There is even a chance that the PQ could reclaim some support it largely lost to Québec solidaire among francophone Montrealers. It used to be THE party of francophone Montrealers back when Quebec politics was a binary between the PQ and the Liberals.

He definitely has that potential though we're still 3 years away from the next election. Still plenty of time to screw things up.

So far so good for him, though. He is smart, charismatic and handsome, plus he is playing the political game quite respectfully, which also sets him apart.
