Well, I think constructive criticism was provided. He may be nine but he seems rather intelligent for his age (despite my age related comment above) so I don't think that should be used as an excuse. There is such a thing as netiquette. If he's not familiar with it then he should be educated, right?

yeah I look at the bar on the right and see it is very short. Thinking just 5 posts on this page. I then get exited thinking priller or mopacs or kevin just posted a plethera of new photos for all to enjoy. Then i realize it is one of Austin Skyscrapers lonnnnnnngggggggg posts. Bummer. But wait. His one line responses come from his interest in skyscrapers and the forum in general. They are his and his only. To see someone as far along as he is in this relm at 9 is a pleasure. Plus he agrees with me on many of my posts. To see someone show interest in everyones posts shows a true dedication to the forum. Rock on Austin Skyscrapers! Also at 37 am I one of the oldest people on this forum?

Enthusiasm is a 'monster' yet to be reigned in for the lad. Sooner or later the other distractions (Lasses...)will take the place!

But back to Mopacs pics of what has been described as the mid 80's boom...when I arrived here. I drove into Austin on a cool Nov. day and long story short as I drove past DT for the first time I was shocked to see a skyline that I unfairly compared to Fargo N.D.s. Fargo still has no building over 210 ft. I have seen that mid to late 80 boom and everything since, it has been a nice ride and I have to say thankfully that old skyline that did look nice from a lot of spots in town is now one hell of a nice 21st century beauty. We may never see this type of surge for some time, but it has been great experiencing it out there and here on SSP.

I'm 51. I like Austinskyscrapers, there's a 42 year span between us but a very mutual interest. All are welcome here as I was, but I agree with prior posts, skip repeating the pics, but feel free to comment on them, such as pic 4 or pic 7. I don't contribute pics yet, I don't know how, a 9 year old does...
its just that repeating the pics is a bit redundant. Austinskyscrapers was one of the first members to welcome me, and I think he's one sharp kid! My 17 year old is constantly on WOW or facebook. Keep on posting kiddo!

When 100 Congress was being proposed, the developers called it 'the gateway to Congress Ave' from the south. I like the angle of the building, I guess you could say 45 degrees from the conventional, and it succeeds in setting up Congress Ave from the river. During televised UT football games in the 80's, the cameras would scan DT and the game announcers would always comment about the beauty of Austin and its ever growing skyline. 20 - 30 story construction was a big deal then as 40+ is today. Austin was known then as better viewed from street level because of how stubby the buildings looked, today we have a true skyline which can be appreciated from a distance.

Thanks people. And I'll try to not repeat the photos. I can see how it clutters the forum now.

Okay! Found news on Fox7 about the Austonian. Check it out!

First, let me say I wasn't trying to be malice in anyway, I was just pointing out something I'm sure a lot of people were thinking. It's a webettiquette thing, and I know that a lot of people repeat post on this forum, but for some of those photos, its like the 6th time I am seeing them by the time AustinSkyscrapers reposts them. Frankly, in terms of him being 9, that's not even information any of us should know. I know this is probably a very safe place for him, but in terms of general web safety, trumpeting out age is not generally the best thing to do. There is more specific information that you've posted about yourself too. If we as a forum community do really appreciate this young enthusiasm, then I feel that I should at least call him out on that at least. Maybe I am overreacting but whatever, I have said what is on my mind...back to the topic at hand:

To put some perspective on even the 80's boom: before the towers were constructed in the 80's, Amarillo was beating Austin in terms of tallest building. The Chase Tower was finally beat by One American Center in 1984. To put some more perspective on the current boom (which I consider Frost to be kind of a part of), Amarillo's tallest had a higher floor count than any building in Austin till Frost came along (which beat Chase by 2 floors). Now granted, Amarillo has a very tall building for a city of its size and location, but still. It really shows how stubby Austin's skyline really was and how much growth we have seen in such a short period of time.

Yea, we've seen a lot of growth, ever since ~2005. To show you how we got beat in skyline, we also need to account for population.
It was only when we had a population boom that our skyline went up with it to. And now we are the 6th fastest growing city in the USA.

In the 1970's:

Austin: 251,808
El Paso: 339,615 -Even they beat us in pop.
Fort Worth: 393,476 -Only until Austin had the upper hand when F.W dropped pop.

That really does put things in perspective. "Stubbiness" has always been a common observation from both outsiders and natives (especially when viewed from the north). Even with Frost, from certain angles it too appears stubby. I always felt the building/crown were deserving of a taller structure.

Anyhow, the Austonian has blown the stubbiness perception completely out of the water. The impact on the skyline, when viewed from a distance, is almost surreal. This is especially the case from the Mopac/183N vantage point (picture taken yesterday to come).

Regarding current status, I presume the upper 'floors' are now at the mechanical level? When complete, the crown will end up wrapping itself around the penthouse (a la Frost)? What is the height difference between the top penthouse level and the top of the crown? Inquiring minds want to know.

That Fox article's title is "Austonian Condos Nearly Completed". Of course, they're a long way from being complete. The article itself correctly states it is nearly "topped out".

Yea. The Austonian pretty much blew all the stubbiness out of the water. The Austonian is 683", which is taller than the rest, add a skinny columned structure and it makes it look even more taller.

Yes, I think it has been confirmed by priller somewhere that "floor" 57 is underway. The crown is probably going to start somewhere in September or October.

I got cha back on this one. Agree on all points. Look like A'sky got the message about the posts. But I also agree about making a point of the age. I would be concerned about safety as well. Glad you are pointing it out. A'sky I hope your parents are monitoring.

I was DT yesterday and as I drove by Spring it occurred to me there is nothing on the balcony's. It looks dark and Spooky. Which had me thinking of all that space a person could wander through. A horror movie would be perfect to film in there. Nightmare at Spring...ooohhh! But man later heading along on Ben White I could see just how The Aus. towers over the rest of the SL. WOW! Freakish. Also Amarillo must have been built on oil money back in the 79's-80's from the building styles, but for it's size it would be impressive.

Nice picture shanny. You really captured it. I think the Austonian's crown will look a bit more different than that.
