Get a grip, folks...

What do you folks expect out of an opening ceremony...? By in large, it thought it was well done. Parts were quite moving for me, actually. I am moving to Vancity this summer and am really looking forward to it. After years in Toronto I am sincerely excited to be going west. I thought I was a cynic... but to each his own, I hope I never get as jaded as some on this forum. Just my two cents... but is there really anyway to do a ceremony like this without any cheez factor at all?

MikeDski Doh! Looks like they should've rehearsed the ending of
the show on Wednesday as well.

Well, at least the dome ceiling didn't cave in on 60,000 people....

i liked it - well done - one of the better winter games openings not really fair to compare em to summer openings

unfortunate about the cauldron and I found the beginning where there was a scramble in the VIP box a little distracting

I just finished watching it and thought it was awesome. So did everyone else that saw it. I didn't even know there was a malfunction until I read about it here.

Anyway, it played well here in China.

Is it just me, or is the sound on the NBC coverage really bad? I can barely hear the commentary.

They have tons of under cover police within the crowd, guaranteed. They also profile each person one by one, they pick out potential trouble makers and get ready to take them out immediately.
They also will likely have snipers in locations over looking the route that can take quick and drastic action in case of a serious incident, say a van crashing through the barriers and plowing towards the convoy
A billion bucks buys allot of security, like this.

Overall I give it a 7/10. The fiddling was weird and the overly Canadian-centric theme likely alienated many countries.

"the overly Canadian-centric theme likely alienated many countries."

Isn't that what every host country does? - Show off their country?

Thought it was great btw. Painful wait for the hydraulics to work.

I found the fiddling to be the best part. No offense, but f*** other countries...these are our games.
Great ceremony overall...but it was painful to watch the last part of Gretzky going to light the final cauldron.

it was held in canada what should it be other than Canadian?

it honoured immigrants - that was that whole ice part, the east coast with the fiddling and celtic heritage etc. it represented the praries well etc

Yeah I loved the fiddling! I wonder if I could download the sound track for that part anywhere.

I like NBC's graphics for the athletes entrance - they have a little map and give country population info and stuff - nice
