I'm not the biggest proponent of the streetcar, but it's extremely misleading to lump the transit centers in with the streetcar money. Those are getting were/are getting built regardless of the streetcar and are really primarily to service bus patrons.

Has anything been discussed as to where the facilities for the streetcars will be located? These trains do need to eventually be cleaned, maintained, repaired, etc. That just adds to the cost for land and construction of the facility.

I only ask, because as I look at the route map, I can't seem to place where they might put it. Maybe close to the Westside Multimodal Center?

Something I read made it seem like the cost was included and that the facility would likely be on the west side.

High speed rail: an idea with no funding
Posted on February 7, 2014 | BY VIANNA DAVILA

Whether or not parts of Texas can sustain high-speed, passenger rail service that also extends all the way to the border and to Monterrey, Mexico, is the subject of an ongoing study by the Texas Department of Transportation.

The study focuses on an 850-mile corridor from Oklahoma City to South Texas. Officials at a public meeting Thursday called this a “planning level” effort — there is no funding for construction yet, no alignments have been chosen and it’s not yet clear when, or if, the line could be operational.

If you're talking about terminal 2 it's been done for several years now. Terminal 1 is currently going through renovations at this time.

Are SA's runways long enough for transoceanic equipment to take off at MTOW?

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but VIA debuted their new logo a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not really sure what my expectations are for a transit company's logo design, but that looks lame.

Yeah, and VIA has talking buses now. And their favorite thing to say is "card not valid". My condolences to the drivers.

I know this doesn't affect San Antonio directly, but I am jealous that TCR has done in two years what it's taken the Lone Star Rail District more than a decade to do.

Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth Mayors Back Bullet Train
by Aman Batheja

The mayors of Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth announced Thursday their unified support for the construction of a privately funded bullet train between the two metropolitan regions.
...
The endorsements come as the Federal Railroad Commission is “30 to 60 days” away from formally launching an environmental impact study of the project, said Robert Eckels, a former Harris County judge and president of Texas Central Railway. The study, which will be funded by Texas Central Railway, is a critical step on the project's path to drawing approval from federal regulators.

VIA plans to rename and rebrand the Westside Multimodal Transit Center.

These are the candidates:

Also, more stuff on the streetcar. I'm glad they're going to coordinate with the city to get some more complete streets downtown. I was worried that VIA would just stick the streetcar out there on Broadway without any streetscape improvements, which would have been a disaster:

They seem reluctant to call it Westside Station. I think Grand West is too pretentious and Gateway too generic. The others would be okay.
