Am I imagining things or did we not just go through that whole process only to have the restaurant killed by NIMBYs?

Another Cactus Club would be rich considering there already is an Ambleside Cactus Club. And the original Cactus Club a few kms away. But apparently they intend to be everywhere... saw two more huge new ones in Langley and Abbotsford from the highway recently.

As for Park Royal condos, I cringe seeing that intersection developed. It so badly needs a highway style interchange there and they're using up all the space for it.

I guess the cost doesn't justify it but the amount of times I've been blocked by a bunch of turning cars going over the bridge when I'm going west or north makes me wish there were some flyovers or something. Seems like the park royal reno was the last chance to do something meaningful there.

I really hope both the Park Royal towers and the new restaurant get built. The current surface parking lots in the South Mall there are old fashioned and wouldn't match the rest of the Village Expansion area if the tower project didn't go through. And after having dined at the Cactus Club English Bay location, I'm pretty excited for anything on the water in West Van that isn't extremely expensive like The Beach House at Dundarave.

This is not a great photo but the awful yellow and green apartments next to Park Royal north got a new paint job at some point recently. Looks much better in person.

Before, courtesy of Google:

Now if they could only paint Woodcroft, all of the biggest eyesores surrounding the bridge would be gone (Capilano and Marine being the other one recently painted).

That is amazing. I grew up in WV and those buildings have always been an eyesore. They will always be ugly blocks, but with the new scheme look much better now.

I think they've lost their retro "vibe" with the paint job.

So these will be up on a hill compared to the private school/spa etc? I guess it could be island property in the future.

A bus route to there/along 1st would be really nice. It's a long walk from Marine.

The article you linked to said they decided 4.5 metres was high enough. Good to know CNV council has the resources to know rising sea levels aren't going to be as bad as they once thought.

I rode my bike around Stanley Park seawall today and while doing that I was wondering how come there are no new highrises being even proposed along West Vancouver's shoreline? I am sure there are some good places to building new ones and the views would be beautiful. Has West Vancouver changed their policy on highrises at some point or what is the reason they are the only place in Metro Vancouver not building highrises?

This thread is full of us complaining about West Van's NIMBYs. Grosvenor has been having a hell of a time building a 7 and 6 storey development on the 1300 block of Marine.

I really like this twitter quote from Todd Coyne (re: 1308 Lonsdale development resistance)

"Seems West Van's afraid of becoming North Van which is afraid of being Yaletown which is afraid of being DTES which is afraid it's Yaletown."

Haven't observed this thread in great detail, but what is the problem people are having there? Shoreline already has a bunch of 70s highrises. Why not allow building some new towers in between?

Who are these NIMBY's anyways? Aren't all the rich people living up the mountain and not in the town center area?

People are afraid of new towers along Ambleside because it will block the view of those living uphill.

High rises will never happen past Dundarave because each lot is worth $10 Million +.

With 65% of the population over the age of 65 and housing prices the way they are (and will stay), nothing much is going to change in West Van. Look for some new towers up in the upcoming sections of the Properties though!
