"No one has been injured and it is likely the load will fall safely to the street," said VPD spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin, in the email.

"But at this time, that isn’t definitive."

Assuming we're talking about the crane? Then yes, they got another crane in later that night to help lower the slab, and it's all resolved now.

I'm stoked.

I'm unsure if I'll still be in the area when it's built, but it'll be an amazing development for this part of the city.

not sure why the office tower isn't at the east end of the site where the station is - they could've pulled an Aberdeen Centre by bridging the retail/office complex to the west end of the platform. The res towers would then be more appropriately located closer to the park and getting all the west/sunset light that the office tower doesn't want anyway.

Because it would have encroached on the East Van cross sign which they're going to move.

I understood the comment was referring to the 1155 E6th three tower project.

They said the office tower was placed there for larger floor plates.

The site has a trapezoidal shape, with the wider end located on its
western side facing Glen Drive. This allows for a larger floorplate office
building at the project’s western extent.

Probably better views for the office block on the west side, as the former MEC building probably won't be redeveloped any time soon.
If they had turned the office block so its long side faced north/south, that would have provided great views and would fit on the east side of the site.

I assume they'll redevelop the warehouses to the west of it first. But I guess depending on demand it might be worth it to tear down the MEC building considering the FSR PCI is getting out of 1155 East 6th.

Was this posted for the Onni 375 East 1st project?

We are preparing to submit a rezoning application for the site. The application will feature 4, 35 storey towers connected by a 6 storey podium. The mix of uses will include residential, retail, office and potentially industrial.

The generous podium setbacks from the north side seem unnecessary. I would've done this instead:

This gives way more light to units and the podium rooftop. The public space at the SE corner can be weather-protected by the overhang of the office tower instead of a canopy

I doubt it makes much of a difference with sunlight. As VCC gets built out it's more likely the podium will be fairly dark most of the time considering how low it is compared to further up Broadway.

I mean if the towers get to this height on the VCC Campus redevelopment
