Check out these pics I took with my iphone tonight. The convention center was completely lit up inside and out and the wood interior walls really stand out well. I only wish I had a real camera with a tripod cause the pics I took are pretty blurry. Anyways...
The glazing is up on the link between the old cc and new
- the government said it will begin funneling significant amounts of a renovation fund to Pavco, the Crown corporation that owns and is rebuilding BC Place Stadium. Last year, Pavco announced plans to spend up to $365 million on renovations and the conversion of the iconic air-supported domed roof to a retractable fabric one. However, most of those changes won't take place until after the Olympics. The budget shows B.C. advanced $38 million to Pavco last year, and will spend $327 million over the next three years, including $125 million this year on pre-Olympic upgrades.
- The $883-million convention centre project is expected to be substantially finished next month. Pavco expects to spend $88 million over the next two years, with much of that going towards upgrades on the existing convention centre at Canada Place.
I really like how the VCC meets the street. Very open and welcoming.
I also like the rooms under the road in this pic.
That's not a room under the road, that's the hall that connects the Canada Place convention centre with the expanded convention centre. They're building a escalator at the Canada Place convention centre hall right now.
I went to the starbucks next to the old convention center entrance the other day. The tile in front had been replaced from the red small brick to a new larger tile design. Are all the outdoor surfaces for the existing center goign to be part of the upgrades mentioned in the RAVCO funding post earlier in this post?
wow thanks for the pics, great job!! i sort of wish the lights werent painted white doesnt seem to fit in with the rest of the building, which is darker grey etc. also I dont like all the planter boxes theyre putting in (why is this city obsessed with planter boxes). I would rather see a large open plaza where people can gather. oh well i'm sure it will look good when its all finished.
