What is wrong with the 70's? I've been told I had a very good time then.

None of the renders showed the beams being lit, and just from looking at them, I'm not sure how they would light up. Any evidence that they're part of the scheme?

I think the poster mistook the reflection of the sun off of the diagonal braces for lights. This building is a chameleon and looks completely different colors / textures depending on how the sunlight is hitting it at that moment.

This tower has an aggressive and imposing stance, yet with the slimming hotel position fades into a quiet elegance. It’s neat how the two functions of the building play off one another, and it’s looking better and better as the finishing touches are falling into place.

Seemed like there was some kind of problem today. A lot of the crew were hanging out on the corner parking lot at 19th and Arch St. this morning when they would normally be filing in or already at work, and there seemed to be meetings going on. No crane movement at all today. It looked liked not many workers on the various floors. There was work outside, though. Anyone hear if there was a power problem with the elevators?

I thought I saw a news item in the past few days of an impending contract expiration and possible strike for operating engineers (such as crane operators), but now I can't find any reference to it.

EDIT: It was a post yesterday in the highrise development thread:

Do not have any insight as to how long this will last, but expect several projects to come to a screeching halt for now. Tough to keep jobsites working without cranes, hoists, etc.

Well then it looks like the schedule will be delayed because of the strike.

Don't know whether they are on strike though. Anyone have current info? If the operating engineers here are IUOE 542, I don't see any reference to a strike on their website nor on their fb page.

No doubt that was my mistake. I've driven past it several more times since I posted that pic, and it's still hard to believe that they aren't lit artificially. The reflection it gives off is pretty amazing. Sorry for the misinformation, but if you see it in person you'll understand my mistake.

Yes they were on strike yesterday, it halted all construction around the city on any job using hoists. (Which is obviously most, if not all) Haven't heard anything yet today. Will post more as I find out.

I can verify that yesterday, 218 Arch was closed for business. Today, the full crew is there.
