I really hope that the developers look at how Santa Monica Place was renovated and essentially turned into a brand new mall. I hope for an all out renovation.

If it's any consolation, the NYC and Houston renovations are RADICAL makeovers.

Brigham Yen is reporting that this Macys will receive it's own makeover as well to bring it to flagship status. Pretty cool, although I'd prefer Saks, Bloomingdales, Barneys, or Nordstrom.

I won't be surprised if one of those stores follows suit in the next few years. It wasn't that long ago that a Santa Monica Place type renovation to Macy*s Plaza was discussed here. In time a proposal will come for a new mega project on the park fifth site and then Pershing Square will need an Anchor. I could easily see the shops around Pershing Square being high end with a department store nearby. That section of downtown has a lot of promise for someone who has the vision to see it through. So does Broadway. Let's hope the momentum continues to build.

You heard it right there! 72 floors! Looks like they might be pushing it to be over 1,000 without the spire =]

Edit: That flyover...Oh dear.

i know right, its great, even Chris Martin stated, "the Ultimate Highest of best use" also "one of the tallest tower in the country". judging the flyover I think the roof height will be equivalent or maybe even taller than the US Bank Tower.

I disagree. Judging from that, it looks like the Crown will be slightly shorter with the spire surpassing it.

So, you are saying that the final version may surpass what is featured in the flyover ?

Here are some screen caps from the video (great find, btw). The spire looks to push it a bit higher than Library Tower. Based on what I'm seeing, it looks like the 1100 foot figure mentioned a couple weeks back is accurate.

Look at the blackcats screenshots. In every single one the crown is slightly shorter, with the spire passing the Bank tower. Although he did say 72 floors from the previous speculation of 70. They could have done that to pass the Bank Tower in height with the crown. We will see soon hopefully.

the first two pictures paused from the video makes the crown seem slightly shorter because the angle of that take makes the US Bank Tower appear taller than the Wilshire Grand in comparison because the US Bank is closer to the location that the picture was shot at.

And in any case, I'm told that Library Tower is on a hill.

that is also true, just how Cal plaza seems to be the size of Aon Center

the US Bank is at 330 - 340 feet os elevation, and Wilshire Grand at 290 feet

Yes, plans for the new wilshire grand tower are exciting, even more so if it will be almost as tall as the tallest bldg in LA. but I've just read the following & do apologize for being a wet blanket....but I'm shocked at this info...

Quote:
The U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles is running into trouble with its debt. The $260 million mortgage on the 73-story building, the tallest on the U.S. West Coast, is in danger of an imminent default, according to a notice from Fitch Ratings, which said the loan was transferred to a debt workout firm known as a special servicer.

The U.S. Bank Tower, owned by MPG Office Trust, has struggled in recent years with high vacancy, a woe common for buildings in the sluggish downtown Los Angeles office market. As of earlier this fall, the tower had an occupancy rate of 58%, according to loan research firm Trepp, well below the approximately 90% occupancy it had back in 2003, when the mortgage was first issued.

The U.S. Bank Tower had relatively less debt on it than other properties, although its high vacancy has meant MPG has barely had enough money from rent to make debt payments, according to Trepp.

I was aware the city's biggest skyscraper wasn't totally full, but I had no idea it had as much vacant space as it does.

I hope certain forumers who always complain about new bldgs in dt not being taller, or feel resentful cuz they think I'm going over things that...in their minds....aren't relevant to this thread----or shouldn't be discussed-----begin to finally understand why such projs have often failed before any actual groundbreaking occurs.

Thankfully Wilshire Grand isn't purely office. And I don't imagine other office towers in DTLA are doing uniformly poorly.

I hope that "72 stories" wasn't just a slip of the tongue.

Citywatch, I don't think it's that people don't want you to discuss these issues, but rather that they have a problem with the frequency with which you write nearly identical posts.
