This would be cool:

I also thought placing The Beach Boys themed Bombora rollercoaster next to the venue where they performed (Reused as Dracula's Castle) and next to the water park was appropriate/historically considerate. The indoor section of the water park allows people to escape the sun, and allows this to remain open year round. Also, Ferris Wheel slides are super cool! Just google it! And Lagoon-a-beach could use a beach. …A beach with surf!

…Does anyone know the owners/stakeholders of Lagoon?

I made it. Sorry, should have made that clear.

My idea incorporates the old game-time space as both the park entrance to Lagoon-a-beach and also a retail space for lagoon-a-beach swag. The mural of the lion would be replaced by a lagoon-a-beach mural/sign. Dracula’s castle would remain, and a hallway would run behind the dark ride to the indoor water park and locker rooms. I also thought placing The Beach Boys themed Bombora rollercoaster next to the venue where they performed (which now houses Dracula’s Castle) and next to the water park was appropriate/historically considerate. The indoor section of the water park allows people to escape the sun, and allows this to remain open year round. Also, Ferris Wheel slides are super cool! Just google it! And Lagoon-a-beach could use a beach. …A beach with surf!

Honestly, this seems like trendy nonsense. If one of USHE's institutions asked for this building filled with vague purpose and buzzwords, it wouldn't get funding.

Anything for The Point though...

Here is the new 'watercourse' at Daybreak. The water part of it seems to be finished and it looks really great so far even with limited landscaping in some spots (the pics don't do it justice). It does seem like an improvement using what they have learned from the other lakes at Daybreak.

I have been meaning to post these for a couple of weeks

Valley Regional Park in Taylorsville has two master plan concept options open for public feedback.

Option 1

Option 2

Definitely digging Option 1. Hope they can make this happen sooner rather than later.

Thanks guys for the Salt Lake Valley updates. I imagine there's a ton of development going on that we're not even beginning to cover. SL,Utah, Speaking of regional parks, I was just noticing the newly opened South Jordan/Daybreak Park. I guess that is where the new AAA ballpark is going to be located also. That is going to be huge and a big plus for the entire Central Metro.

New park springs to life. It will become the largest in Salt Lake County.

I don't think that park specifically is going to be the location of the ballpark. It was just mentioning things happening in South Jordan.

I pass by the Millcreek Commons construction projects all the time. There are about 2 or 3 6-7 story housing projects under construction and the city hall is nearing completion. I hope the attached parking garage and wrap get going soon. That will help create a urban edge along 13th east and 33rd south, and close in the Commons ice/ skate loop.

I can be the guy who gives regular updates. Sounds like Comrade is also close by.

Bingham Creek Park has been in the works for years, done with ZAP funds. It's currently in phase 1 of 3 (I think). The plan is on the SLCO site. The Bees Ballpark will be a few miles to the southwest, over by Mountain View. They're doing utility work on it now.

Correct. They actually have the basin for the ballpark field excavated. It'll be nice to be able to walk to the Bees Ballpark or watch the fireworks from my courtyard!

Well said. My favorite part of that article: "..the intent seems to always have been to create a more sanitized, less interesting rival to SLC at the opposite end of the valley."

I have made this point so many times but Salt Lake has so much going for it. It was well built from the beginning. It is already the capital and largest city and the cultural center of the state. Why not build on what we already have instead of trying to build something sub par further away from the airport and everything Salt Lake has.

Gardner Brings Mass Timber Construction To Utah

https://gardnergroup.com/newsroom/ga...ction-to-utah/

...Located in Draper, immediately off 1-15, the 5-story office building is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023 and has brought together a team of designers, engineers, contractors and mass timber advocates and experts to bring the Baltic Pointe project to fruition.

“Part of Gardner’s mission is to discover more sustainable ways to build,” said Christian Gardner, CEO of Gardner. “To do this, we need to venture from the status quo and embrace new innovations and building materials. This building will be the first commercial project in Utah to be built with mass timber, and we are optimistic that it will be the first of many.”

Mass timber is a class of wood products made by tightly layering soft lumber boards into columns and panels. The resulting products are strong enough to replace steel and concrete in load-bearing applications, currently approved for buildings up to 18 stories under the International Building Code.

When forests are managed sustainably, wood is a renewable resource and easily sourced in North America. For perspective, it takes about 16 minutes for the amount of wood used in the Baltic Pointe building to be grown in existing U.S. and Canada forests. Gardner has received a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Forest Service in support of Gardner’s efforts to incorporate this sustainable medium into its commercial construction projects.

Because of its many advantages, over 1,500 mass timber projects have been constructed or are in design in the U.S., although few in the Mountain West. Mass timber is largely prefabricated off-site and pieced together like a giant puzzle, so it facilitates shorter construction times completed by a smaller labor force...

We have one of these in Phoenix, pretty cool concept and hope to get more of them. I wouldn't mind working in a timber beam building.

I remember 2 or 3 years ago there was a proposal for a mass timber apartment building near the U of U. I'm guessing that proposal fell through, but I'm glad to see mass timber start to take off a bit. I hope we continue to see more of it.
