Thanks for the pics corvairkeith. It looks odd how one congress put the windows in. Skipping floors. Not everyone can be so lucky as we are up here. I was interested is seeing pics of our second tallest building being built. That is the Kincaid Tower here in Lexington. Well I just found the Lee Majors movie Steel. Wish they could make a movie like that with one of our buildings minus the stunt man loosing his life on a 22 story plunge gone wrong.

The dates may not be accurite on that texas highway websight where that 1957 pic was taken. Reason is a pic from 1970 looking north from Riveside and 35 shows dobie center topped out. I thought it was built in 1972. Or when was it built? Construction started?

Once the W gets up to about the 20th floor, there will be just 2 skyscrapers here that would have existed before 2000. One American Center and 301 Congress are visible also which existed before that year, but they're only partially visible. This a very different skyline than it was in 1999. At first glance, it would be nearly unrecognizable.

These are my pics

The One American Center photo is from a mid-80s Austin business magazine.

The second photo I took with my very first (crappy) camera.... circa 1987

Its easy to forget how dramatic the 80s building boom was too... all the towers that went up south of 5th street totally transformed the skyline (especially when viewed from south of the lake).

You must not have been very old when you took that one in 1987.

When the building was topped out at 32 floors and almost done I found a open door. Being only 10 I just went inside. I went up the stairs to the top level. The outside was done but the interior was not even close. Security was not that tight back then. It was cool and the view was amazing. But as I left out the way I came I ended up in the company of one of Austins Finest. My parents were not happy but could not blame me.

I knew they were posted by a regular on this forum I just couldn't remember which one. I must say your photography skills and choice in cameras have improved in the past 22 years.

wow i was thinking it's a good thing that the Austonian was built, otherwise the Ashton would look really awkward being so close to that adjacent office bldg

That was my very first camera, a Kodak "110" format. The photo quality from those cameras left much to be desired....in fact, they were horrible. But, I was a kid so I really couldn't complain. This was actually one of my 'better' shots.

I would assume if they find it it will be sooner rather than later, as most buyers will want to wait or sign contingency contracts because of the financing issue.

Although it seems they lost financing only because the bank with the loan failed.
Bad news strikes again!!

Looks cool, the little "V" thing.

Yea. The skyline was pretty much born in the 1960-70-80's

The Austonian, 100 Congress, and the Ashton are family

First, do you really need to post a response to every post that has been made since you last checked? Imagine how clogged this forum would get if we all did that?

Second, I just noticed that the Four Seasons actually skipped a bunch of floors and is putting glass on the top residential levels on the south side. So it not totally outrages for a building to skip floors when putting glass on the exterior.

Yah, I was wondering why there was a need to respond to every post and quote every picture. Worse yet, most of the responses are just one liners and of no real substance. That's a nine year old for you I guess.

That's awesome! I guess we're the same age then. I was curious about skyscrapers then, but I doubt I would have had the idea to take pictures of them. Back in the day I mostly relied on magazines and stuff. I did have a little camera like your's, I don't remember what kind, but it was one like that. I actually still have some of the photos I took with it during a Cub Scouts field trip. I guess that was my first one. I do remember being curious about cameras ever since I was very little. I remember playing with my grandfather's old camera. It was one of those that had the huge flash the size and shape of a motorcycle headlight. Until I had a camera and was able to start taking pictures of buildings, I mostly relied on magazines and stuff. I remember checking out the skylines in the Encyclopedia Encarta 1995 edition. I thought I had hit the jackpot then, and printed every single skyline photo I could find, much to the dismay of my uncle. lol Then the internet came along and there was no limit to how many I could find. Then of course SkyscraperPage was founded in 1997 and I found it that year. Then the forum was started in 1999 and I joined it too.

Hey, cut AustinSkyscrapers some slack! He's about the same age I was when I started getting into skyscrapers. He's lucky though, I didn't have something so cool as the internet or a skyscraper forum at my disposal. It's pretty cool too, he's probably just as old as the forum is! I think it's great having someone as young as he here keeping the interest alive.
