More Perimeter and Diagonal Columns...

A second perimeter column is installed on the SE corner, and more diagonal columns added to the 3rd floor.

^ Eventually you will see the West St columns in that shot. There's at least a couple now.

Great to see the project really moving! I hope one day the other towers will rise the same.

There are 69 office floors, 20 through 88, (88 minus 19, not 20) and I think the sky lobby is more than 13' 1". That should account for the discrepancy.

Fast...

They are moving really fast now...

They added a third column to the SW corner and already installed the horizontal beam between the SW corner and the SE corner.

The site is as busy as ever now and people are really taking notice. I’m down there a few times a week and constantly see people trying to peek in from all areas to catch a glimpse of all the progress. If it weren’t for the constant great updates on SSP, I’d probably be joining them.

Thanks for the consistent updates everyone, it’s much appreciated.

oh yea my mistake, that makes sense.

but if you look at these two diagrams they are different, I think the first one is old because it has the observatory at the very top and offices to the 88th (1150 feet) floor.

when you look at this one it has offices to the 90th floor (also 1150 feet) and resembles the current renderings much better

so which one is our tower?

Actually neither of those is our tower, these are. Though the second rendering is very close.

You must subtract 311' 2" from the elevations shown on the prints. Zero elevation for the Port Authority is 300 feet below mean high tide at Battery Park Point. Thus placing the finished lobby floor 11' 2" above mean high tide. Not where I would want to be in a hurricane.

Can you get a clear scan or photos of the top floors with the spire?

New World Trade Center's Chinese Glass Is Adding to Trade Furor

The base of the Freedom Tower is seen under construction at the World Trade Center site in New York on Sept. 11 of this year.

By Peter Whoriskey
Saturday, October 10, 2009

Quote:
The new World Trade Center, now under construction, is often considered a symbol of American enterprise. But to some union members and U.S. businesses, it represents what's wrong with the nation's economy.

The contract to manufacture the blast-resistant glass wrapping the main tower's first 20 stories was awarded earlier this year to a Chinese firm that underbid U.S. competitors.

.....When it was learned in March that a Chinese firm, Beijing Glass, would manufacture the special glass for the World Trade Center project, a small furor erupted.

A U.S. company, PPG Industries, said it had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars helping to design the glass, only to see the contract go overseas.

"I think that we have seen product after product from China be unreliable, and in this instance, we need the most reliable," Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said at the time, according to media reports.

Steven Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is rebuilding the World Trade Center site, defended the award.

"It was a competitive bidding process, which is how we award all our contracts," Coleman said.

Ikenson, the trade specialist, dismissed the One World Trade Center controversy, saying, "It's in our national interest to get the biggest bang for the buck."

Today it's glass, tomorrow it's tanks and trucks. Why is it so important to keep GM, Ford and Chrysler going? Tanks and trucks.

I'll see about taking some shots tomorrow, NYGuy.

Staring at those bare cores for years got to my head after while. It pleases me that this thing is already MASSIVE and will only get larger.
