Bunch of new (?) renderings of that Buchanan West project by Millennium on Lougheed Highway. Looks like a project that belongs on Alberni.

Quote:
The development, on a former industrial site, will comprise new homes, hotel rooms and retail space in two towers that both enhance and complement the existing skyline.

Tall buildings in an active seismic zone demand a robust structural system. What if this could enrich their design, rather than stifle it? Rethinking structural requirements led us to embrace solidity with a curving, concrete exoskeleton around the two towers.

From afar, this outer armour creates a distinct, softened form in the skyline. As you move closer, you can see a shining secondary palette of bronze panels and metalwork around the windows that add a warm-toned, natural finish at a human scale.

Under the grand cathedral-like arches at the base, you can walk along a sheltered colonnade where the textured exoskeleton meets the ground in a format that is uplifting and protects you from the elements.

Bassano

I don't think there's a thread for it, but Bassano has been put on hold by Boffo.

Quote:
Only 44 units of the 318 in the first tower sold between July and December and then sales just dropped off completely in the new year,
so the company reluctantly decided to pause the project, return deposits with interest, and wait for better conditions, said Ms. West.

I guess there’s not a lot of room for price drops on condos, but the economy is still good, so there are potential customers out there for condos if the developer could lower the prices enough.

Too bad they are building the community centre so far back from the street.

Seems like they are leaving space for a new multi-use path and some more turning lanes

Burnaby's $1.2B capital reserve 'basically exhausted.' - CBC

Quote:
The city says future projects are essentially on hold indefinitely until it can generate funds through a new provincially mandated funding tool, one it has repeatedly criticized.
Looks like Burnaby is trying to strike up some drama with the Province to distract from criticism of them sitting on their hoard of cash too long (and not taxing existing residents for capital projects prior to this year basically).

Quote:
Mayor Mike Hurley also criticized the province's new funding plan, but he wouldn't commit to taking on debt.

"It's not something that I would ever want to do," he told CBC. "I think we just have to find different ways and come up with a different business plan. Burnaby's motto has always been pay as we go, and hopefully we can stay that way."
Almost like this isn't really the Province's issue, it's an issue with those allergic to taking on debt for capital projects in Burnaby (like every other municipality that's trying to improve their residents quality of life does).

Hurley came in to office promising to spend that money on improvements right? Apart from the new RCMP HQ, the list of stuff Burnaby is getting in the next few years is impressive. It just should have been done over time. The costs escalated faster than Burnaby's investment account.

Quote:
While acknowledging the use of city reserves, Hurley reassured that the long-term focus remains on rebuilding those funds.

“We still have good reserves, and as soon as housing starts pick up again, we’ll begin rebuilding them. But at the end of the day, our job is to provide services and facilities. That’s the most important thing we can do.”

Burnaby Advances 50-Storey Rental Tower And Community Hub In BC Builds’ Largest Project Yet

Although the Province's announcement in September said the project was going to be a 45-storey tower with approximately 430 rental units, the proposal that has now been advanced is for a 50-storey tower with 480 rental units, split between 384 market rental units and 96 non-market rental units. The non-market rental units will be located on floors 2 to 11 with the market rental units on floors 12 to 49. The ground floor will house the lobby and amenity space and the top floor will house additional amenity space.

The suite mix has not been finalized, but the City says that 40% of the units will have at least two bedrooms. As the project is advancing through BC Builds, rents for the market rental units will be based on "an independent market rent appraisal of the area around the development site" and non-market rents will be 20% below market rental rates.

Do buyers prefer the Jack and Jill ensuite in a 1-bedroom condo?

Better than the alternatives - walking out and around in the middle of the night to access, or having guests go through the bedroom to access (which was a layout in a Toronto condo I once rented).

Peterson Completes Buyout Of Create Properties From Burnaby Lake Village Project

The Burnaby Lake Village master-planned project has officially exited creditor protection, according to filings in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, resolving a conflict between the two local developers that partnered on the project.

Burnaby Lake Village is set for the 19-acre property at 6800 Lougheed Highway in Burnaby, directly adjacent to the Millennium Line SkyTrain's Sperling-Burnaby Lake Station, where Peterson and Create Properties were planning nearly 6,000 new homes across 14 mixed-use buildings between the heights of 12 and 25 storeys.

The partners — who owned the property through 1112849 BC Ltd. and Sperling Limited Partnership — had received final approval for their master plan rezoning application and Phase One of the project was advancing through the approval process by the time the project was placed under creditor protection on November 28, 2024.
