In a more perfect world, it would be great if there were a new road that by-passed Dawson from Hazlewood easterly towards Balsam to allow trucks to avoid the built up area.
It'll be interesting to see what changes the eventual freewayalization (and direct ramps between the TBE and the Shabaqua Highway) have to encourage through trucks to follow the TCH.

It won't be direct ramps, Highway 11/17 will be re-routed so there is a curve, not a right turn, so that traffic that stays in its land on the Shabaqua Extension will go directly onto the Thunder Bay Expressway, not the Harbour Expressway.
I'm not exactly sure how to describe this, but it's basically a Y interchange that leads to a Parclo that becomes two separate, perpendicular roads located on the outer edge of a bend in the road.
When the Expressway was built, during the amalgamation process, there was an "If Port Arthur gets this, Fort William must get something equivalent!" mentality, so a by-pass connecting 11/17 to Dawson Road (essentially making Highway 102 into 11/17 and having 11/17 by-pass Fort William entirely) would have been interpreted by the south end as a giant "fuck you". Not only does PA get the new Highway but Fort William
loses it's highway? It was also the bigger city of the two at the time (by, like, 500 people or so). It makes the most sense for the time, but it simply couldn't be done because of politics.
Honestly, I think Highway 102 shouldn't be a Kings Highway at all anymore. The only reason it has to be is because so much of it is located outside of municipal boundaries, but incorporating Gorham, Ware, Jacques, Fowler and Forbes townships and the Dawson Road Lots into a new municipality and putting the road under its control would solve that problem.
There was also talk of turning Highway 130 into Highway 61, and having Highway 61 from 130 to 11/17 become a local road.
