The former Vien Dong location is being renovated for a High Mart. They already have a location in Charlottetown and style themselves as a "Global Local Convenience Store", (Indian Grocery, Latino/Mexican Grocery, Imported Candy Shop and a Mobile Shop)

Who owns the land where the current RCMP station is at Main and Assomption? With that location and the vacant land immediately to the east would be a prime condo/apartment building development location

Prime spot for development. Let's hope it happens and that it's something substantial.

The building and property are city-owned. Staff said they will evaluate what to do once construction of the new building is underway.

The fact that this is city owned property is a good thing, especially given it's prominent location at the corner of Main & Assumption. The city will have full control over whatever gets built here (they will not sell this property for a new strip mall, that's for damned sure). They will hold out for a quality development, presumably with considerable density and height.

I wish it were less industrial looking/suburban. Looks like it belongs in an industrial park and not in a downtown that is trying to revitalize its image.

This aerial shows where the new RCMP building will be built.

It is not "right downtown", and is being built on rehabilitated industrial (formerly railway) land, quite literally "on the wrong side of the tracks." This building will be a damned sight better than what was there before.

There apparently is a "police architecture" building style, and the architects responsible for this building are well respected purveyors of this style. The building may look like a high school, but this is apparently typical.

I think the location will also benefit that area, as it’s an area with a lot of homeless. It offers protection for them and the community.

Corner Gordon & High

Anybody know what's popping up (nearly complete, actually) at the corner of Gordon & High? I'd guess at offices, but haven't seen anything official. (Former Jim's Pump Shop space.)

Welcome to the forums!

Most developments in Moncton are discussed in neighbourhood specific threads. This development is considered [Moncton] East, and is being discussed there.

Some major developments like the Junction Urban Village or the 20 Record Street development have their own project specific threads.

Other threads are more topic oriented ([Moncton] Retail Thread, [Moncton] Active Transportation Thread)

It can be a little confusing, but not too bad.

An affordable housing apartment building. Two stories.

They are beginning to install a proper tower crane on site. This looks like a new crane. I have not seen it before on other building sites around the city.

Drove by yesterday and thought the same - that's a shiny new crane, red and white. Intimidatingly close to the road, too.

Thanks. Should have guessed from the somewhat similar construction to nearby Tannery Court.
