Narrative for week of June 19:

350 Mission - poured 13th floor, putting up scaffolding for 14th floor, crane jumped over weekend

535 Mission - no updates

Lumina - really progressing! (see note earlier)

299 Fremont - working on Fl 3 (part of Fl 3 already poured with rebar going to 4) and Mid-Rise portion also coming along nicely

399 Fremont - still working on Ground Floor, scaffolding up for almost full footprint, should pour 2nd Floor next week I imagine, with rebar going up for Fl 3 by end of month

340 Fremont - still working on hole, but progressing nicely, mostly dug out

ORH North - still working on finishing lobby

45 Lansing - Poured Fl 14, working on putting scaffolding up for 15

222 Second - not much progress since last update, but parts of Fls 9/10 put up on north side, crane jumped and it is wayyy up there

SFMOMA - frame looks like it's at least 2/3 up if not closer to 3/4 up.

i don't really see any chance in the world that this passes, and for once i'm glad. definitely don't want a blue/green glass box instead, but holy smoke, not that, please. sometimes it seems like these old school, leave-nothing-on-the-table developers are taunting the anti-development reactionaries, like in this case actively trying to get them to get a ballot measure going to limit height along market to 4-5 stories. i love the proposed massing and streetwall but this is so ugly that it will just antagonize people.

Now that the crane is higher on 350 Mission it is right outside my office window. Scaring alot of my co-workers about how close the thing swings to our building. Facinating to have a birds eye view of all the action, but will be sad when our view to the South will be blocked.

I can now see the steel frame taking shape at SFMOMA from my apartment in the Civic Center. The building in the foreground with the yellow insulation/water barrier is the new hotel at 942 Mission Street. A telephoto shot from 1 mile away.

I don't think it's that hideous. Remember, you're looking at a triangular shaped building from it's broadest angles. And right now, isn't that a surface parking lot?

hideous, no. like inconsistent with basic design standards as understood by most san franciscans, yes. i really wouldn't mind this thing going up, for variety's sake, except that i know that it's precisely these developments that pull the anti-development creeps out of the woodwork to the meetings and onto the streets and, eventually, into the ballot booths. developers needs to move to subtle and even classical designs, so that we can get stuff built during this phase until people decide to stop kneecapping their own city.

1066 Market St - Fall season colors are not my thing. Much too dark for my taste. From the perspective seen from Jones Street the building is one big box and some light colors like those seen in an earlier rendering would do a lot to make the structure seem to float in the air. (see 1977's "refresher" link)

This is the Tenderloin we're talking about--most San Franciscans won't really ever get up close to see 1066 from this angle, and it's not going to block any views. I doubt it will energize anyone who isn't already a total NIMBY.

I agree. Why Buffalo, Memphis. and Harrisburg get more attention than San Francisco or Miami is beyond me??? Hell, even the NYC High Rise thread gets less attention, and theres a highrise proposed almost every day. Same with Miami.

Chicago gets the most attention even though its not really booming anymore. Lets focus on SF and cities that are booming for the moment. Chitown will get is turn soon enough.

San Francisco is on the cutting edge of skyscraper and highrise construction in the U.S. and thats important!!!

Walked by 45 Lansing today, then the new One Rincon tower, down Fremont Street and over to Lumina. The amount of construction going on in the area is amazingly cool. Give it four to six months and the drive coming into The City from Oakland will be much different than a year ago.

^I really love the new bridge. Drove over it again last weekend to and from Father's Day and it really is visually incredible, especially at night.

Living in a high rise on the 27th floor I pay keen attention to this kind of story! After 43 years in the Fox Plaza I'm confident that we are safe. I've been through a few fires in that time, including one directly above me.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) --
Police are investigating another possible arson attempt at a construction site in San Francisco.

Officers surrounded the half-built building at 2nd and Howard streets at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. It's one of several sites being investigated as a possible arson target.

The good news about the fire is that it did not cause much damage. It was sparked at the corner of 222 2nd St. Investigators have not yet released details as to how many of these fires they're looking into. However, by our count, it is the tenth fire in this neighborhood in just a few weeks.

Sunday's blaze was sparked just before noon at a construction site for a high rise building that is schedule to open next summer.

The police crime scene unit was called in to collect evidence.

ABC7 News has been told specifically that this fire is connected to the others.

Earlier this weekend we learned a joint task force of police inspectors and fire department investigators has been tracking these fires which, up until last week, had been minor incidents.

But on Thursday, someone got into the parking garage at One Rincon Plaza and took off after setting a car on fire.

And to think you were roasted in the fire for even mentioning arson as a possible cause at the MB fire. Too many crazies in this town for that not to be a possibility whenever there is a fire at a construction site. Glad these fires are all getting caught and put out!

^The worst construction arson fire was the one that melted the BART tracks at West Oakland a couple years back--it was a five or six story project, and it never got restarted. There's just a charred concrete podium there.

He wasn't roasted for mentioning arson as a cause per se - he was roasted because he jumped to that specific conclusion without enumerating all of the other possible causes and without any information whatsoever other that that it looked like an awfully big fire from what he could see from his balcony at Fox Plaza a couple of miles away.
