Some good projects on that list.

The bridge over Alouette River via 240th may be a hard sell though with local residents.

Next phase of Highway 1 widening work underway in Fraser Valley

Quote:
...
The B.C. government says work on the next phase of widening the highway between 264 Street and Mount Lehman Road is now underway.

The plan is to add an HOV lane and make other upgrades on Highway 1, which is only two lanes in both directions through that stretch.

...
This marks the beginning of what the province calls “Phase 3A” of its Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program.

In addition to widening the highway, the B.C. government says Phase 3A will also include a new interchange at 264 Street, which it notes is “highly travelled during morning and afternoon hours.”

Phase 2 is currently underway between 216 Street and 264 Street. That work includes a new Glover Road overpass, which is expected to be done next summer.

The province says it plans to begin site preparation work on Highway 1 between Mt. Lehman Road and Highway 11 (Sumas Way) early next year.

seems pointless to spend all this time and effort to just add 1 HOV lane. hwy 1 should be 3 GP lanes at a minimum at least until Whatcom Rd in Abbotsford.

we are always half-assing things which means another construction project, more traffic disruptions, and more $$$ later.

The lane count is a little underwhelming, though there will be additional length added to what will become 4th lane climbing lanes, and the bus shoulder will actually be a true wide shoulder, not the crap we have on the 99. Still not the greatest, but not the worst.

The big benefit to this project though is the replacement of all the old / low / narrow overpasses and bridges.

Also the 232 and 264 interchanges will be completely rebuilt in the current phases with good designs. Those are the standout legitimately well designed portions of this project.

Overall I wouldn't call this a bad project, but it could be better. A 7/10 (for reference I would give the new 99 project a 3/10, the SFPR was a 5/10, and the Portman Highway 1 project a 9/10) The original Highway 99 project now cancelled was also going to be a 9/10...

Yep, that's the real constraint that's prevented any action up to this point. Once they're replaced further upgrades will be much cheaper and easier to justify.

Would it be nice to get more done at once? Maybe, but if the increased price tag means it wouldn't get done for longer then this is the best way to go.

Crazy video, gotta love the cement truck driver in this video. Obviously driving way too fast for the conditions:

Watch: Man nearly hit by oncoming cement truck on B.C. bridge

Interesting way to interpret a guy walking around in the middle of a 5 lane highway.

The concrete mixer speeds towards the stalled vehicle only swerving right at the last minute. The guy had to move to get out of the way.

Geeze, you can see the concrete mixer only hits the brakes about 50 feet from the stalled vehicle. Outstandingly poor judgment on the part of the driver there.

Yes, he's lucky he didn't roll the mixer truck on the bridge deck.

Yeah, it looked to me like the guy jumped out of his truck and ran across the lanes because if he didn't he'd have been in the truck when the cement mixer hit it. Lesser of two evils, and all that.

Transportation Minister Rob Fleming says the province will implement escalating penalties for companies and drivers with repeat offences, adding longer suspensions and the possible loss of their operating certificate.

Fleming says the province has used unprecedented penalties with recent offenders, including suspending one company's entire fleet while investigators look into a crash involving one of its drivers.

The changes include the requirement for dump-style vehicles to have in-cab warning devices by next June, telling drivers their trailer hasn't been lowered, and over-height vehicle fines will increase to $575, up from $115.

The argument of not having the dump truck bed lowered all the way can’t be used this time. Standard piece of cargo being hauled by a flatbed hits the SAME vintage of overpass. At some point BC’s transportation ministry needs to accept these overpasses are poorly designed and prioritize replacing them. They don’t allow for any expansion underneath and they’re insanely low.

Another one, perhaps trying to get their collision in before the new regulations come into effect:

CityNews: Truck hits Delta overpass on Highway 99 leaving ‘significant damage’: MoT

From the report:

Quote:
....In a statement Thursday, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said it was “frustrating to hear that another commercial vehicle driver” had crashed into the overpass, which it notes sustained “significant damage.”

“The RCMP and CVSE are on the scene on Highway 99 at 112th Street and further details around the circumstances of the crash and any injuries aren’t yet available,” the statement, issued just after 2 p.m., said.

“CVSE is suspending the company’s ability to operate in B.C. while the investigation is underway, which will likely cost the company tens of thousands of dollars. CVSE will name the company as soon as they’ve been officially notified of suspension.”

It said the driver, an “owner operator” who “is not a company driver” failed to wait for his permit and route directions for his oversized load.

i disagree. these overpasses have been the same height for 70yrs. it never used to be this much of a problem.

im pretty sure we could all figure out what the problem is if we look at the data enough...

its disgusting at this point.
