Imagine having a fear of heights, and being shipped in to work on this building. I feel for them...

Those ships they are building are a great contrast. Heard an NPR segment talking about them (Google: 'Dhow')

Seeing people building wood cargo ships in the shadow of this building.

I hope it isn't just one guy... It would take ages... NON-STOP!

They would have to pay me a lot to go up there. They probably still earn way too less for their jobs...

kenratboy - Seeing people building wood cargo ships in the shadow of this building.

These boats being built are about 4 miles from the Burj Dubai site. . . just about everything in Dubai - it seems - is about 4 miles from one another. . . and I wasn't that impressed with the NPR Marketplace segments they did. . . they glossed over everything like a Japanese tourist snapshots of the United States. . .

Yes, at least 500 ft more to go.

By the way, you can kind of tell in my last photo, the water has a lot of debris (At least that is what it looks like to me) in the bottom and that is why it is green. The actual lining looks light blue.

500 foot??? Really?? that's almost 150 meters, it already is that small at the top. Does that distance include the spire?

They might have to use the space shuttle, helicopters can't go that high. J/K

maybe it could be done like with the Petronas towers. Where one of the two spires was actually assembled inside the building and raised the small distance upwards. This technique made their victory a certainty. (Because each tower was given to a different contracter, they created a race)

Isn't this the way they did with the Chrysler Buliding as well in the 1920's ?
The spire was assembled inside of the building and raised up at the last minute.

The design architect, Adrian Smith gave an interesting interview about his company and Burj Dubai. He claims that there are 40 storeys left to be built, which could mean 200 storeys all together (current 160 + 40).

Yeah. I think that was because the final height was a big secret.

Final Height: 818 meters
Current Height: 630.50 meters
Remaining to be build: 187.50 meters

The above figure is on top of the pinnacle/spire, that will be build inside the steel structure and will be jacked up and locked in place.
