Just a big canopy in front of the open 29th floor rooftop amenity deck. It was in the 2017 illustrations. (This one is from Daily Hive). It's in the marketing brochure as well, but the illustration totally downplays the supports necessary to actually support the canopy. (The glazed wall of the top few floors slopes back as well).

Are you guys talking about the centre section of the glass at the top of the tower?

This rendering had the struts.

The elevator core is behind that section I believe. With no offices behind that wall the lighting feature makes sense.

The angle of the glass makes it reflect differetly.
I think it is the same tint (for vision and spandrel) as the glass on the rest of the tower.

Curious whether there will be fins on the centre section covering the core.

Yeah and there's also no visual breaks in the glazing type on the other sides of the building.

Interestingly, they are using the luffing crane to place curtain wall panels along that section adjacent to the core
(ie no interior space for the a spider crane/hoist).

Looking at the spandrel panels in the sun today, I can see brackets for fins
- so it seems it'll looks like Jollyburger's rendering above.

The top to this building is on par with one of the worst ever in Vancouver, right next to Telus Garden, which ironically is also captured in photo above.

Both are tragic failures of rigid adherence to bad policy.

Fortunately, no one really cares beside few of us on a building forum. Life goes on.

Never seen this render before - thanks! The lighting feature may help save some of this project, but the building is being very awkward shape thanks to view cone silliness. I only appreciate become it adds density but it is ugly compared to Scotia Tower.

Wow, that's gonna be quite the space! The views to the west will be absolutely unmatched for an office rooftop in the city.

The Stack will also have good views from its terraces.
745 Thurlow is also supposed to have a nice roof deck.

Steel superstructure being installed up top.
Could fill in all the steps at the top.

Oh, I may have confused clouds reflecting off some of the glass as there being solid panels in the middle. I stand corrected and this makes me happy. Still pleased about the lighting feature as well!

I guess it's the same glass but with some kind of treatment to the inside surface?

Yup, that's what spandrel panels are.
Here, they hide the concrete structure behind.
Often, nowadays, they add arbitrary opaque surface to reduce solar gain (light).

Ah right. When someone mentions spandrel I assume it's some kind of metal panel.
