"only 20 billion"? What are you high?
The PA TEC did studys on the line extension costs and they came up very cheap , with the exception of the reading line. Then restoring a streetcar line or building a new one costs between 20-30 Million$ a Mile. The Most expensive project will be the subway extensions... The Trolley restorations are already budgeted for 2021-2025....under pressure for Philly , septa seems to be sticking to meeting it....

Newtown line - 350 Million$
Quakertown line - 182 Million$
Reading line - 600-700 Million$
West Chester line - 250 Million$

You're delusional. I'm not sure where you think all this money is going to magically appear from.

Well I can dream can't I? I never said those were solid projects ,it will probably take intill the year 2070 before all these plans are completed. Thats the way it works in the State of Pennsylvania , it takes you guys forever to build anything.......i think we can agree on that at least.

Can somebody explain to me why Septa has a high fare box recovery on its regional rail?

People use it?

More seriously, I would suspect that part of it is that maintaining an electrified network lowers maintenance costs somewhat. It also has the good fortune of having one of the busiest rail routes in the country--the Paoli/Thorndale Line--without which, I've heard, the farebox recovery on the whole system would drop.

SEPA used to list the schedule for the Silverliner V, but they don't do that anymore. It is an inconvenience figuring out which runs use the Silverliner V.

Michael aka Trainwizard reported Septa decided to nick the list for some reason.

At this point there are enough SVs running that you have a decent chance of catching one in regular service.

I've been on a Silverliner V multiple times in regular service. They tend to run more during rush hour. They are nice. They have TV's inside (that currently only display bullcrap) and electronic displays of the name of the next stop on both the inside and the outside as well as a voice that tells you what stop is next. There is no more entrances at both the front and rear of the car, instead you get on via multiple entrances in the middle of the car much like a subway. They are definitely an improvement.

Whoa, I've peen baying attention to this for years, but never saw that. Did they never put them up on the site or something? How did I miss these...

We've heard a lot about the plans on the NJ side to go down the CSX tracks into Gloucester County, but I haven't really heard anything about the PA side expansion. Is it just an unfunded dream right now?

The idea of a street car like this on Delaware Ave is interesting to me. At first it feels like "Well, this goes nowhere but strip clubs and Ikea", but I wonder if people who live closer to Delaware Ave than Broad Street would take it to Center City instead of a bus.

I wanted to ask you about that. Weren't you looking at a purchase order or something a few months ago, and noticed that they were doing this replacement? I was wondering if you knew what kind of cars they might be getting, like if they were exact replacements or if they were getting something new and interesting.

I wouldn't know sorry , it was a purchase order. Every Transit agency puts one out for the next 10-15 years in Transit and Railroad Magazines...

The light rail on the waterfront was a dream but now it is a part of the Waterfront Master Plan... so hopefully we'll see it built some day.

Last month, there was news that the 1st Denver, Silverliner V EMU chassis was placed under and easily passed (within FRA-limits) a structural test in South Korea. It will later be sent to Philadelphia for completion. I think 60% of the trains will be built in South Korea and then all finished in Philadelphia. Interestingly enough, even though 60% of it is constructed in South Korea, 70% of the vehicle's construction cost, comes from the final 40% assembly done in Philadelphia. So it meets made in america criteria (one of the RTD Denver requirements). Don't quote me on those percentages, but they are close if not exactly correct.

Hey Nexis, that $250 million to reinstate regional rail service to West Chester, is that figure including rebuilding/re-commissioning all 12 abandoned stations or only a handful of the 12? Also, I am not sure if the proposed Delaware Avenue LRT line will curve into Center City or just follow the CSX alignment along the Delaware River.

I wonder if I can beat hammersklavier to posting these...

Arguments for and against turning the City Branch into a park, transit explored on Hidden City:

What To Do With The City Branch: Return It To Transit As Light Rail

What To Do With The City Branch: Make It Part Of A 3 Mile Linear Park and Non-Motorized Transitway

I know I've wanted to see it become transit again ever since I found out it existed.
