It appears to be within the downtown boundary.
Huh, neat. I always thought downtown ended at Ellice. The more you know.

The property is not within the downtown zoning bylaw, since it is north of Ellice and west of Balmoral. So the property is technically in the West End.

Hopefully this spurs development of the triangle parking lot at Colony/Ellice.
What I would love, is a nice tower that's between Garry/Smith/Ellice/Notre Dame to compliment the Lindsay Building. Seem's like it's like a missing piece of a jig-saw puzzle with how long that's been vacant. I know it gets used a lot for the Burt, but there's several parkades within the area.

I wouldn't hold my breath that tower gets built, but we will see....did it show who the developer is, other than the numbered company name?

that photoshop rendering is hilarious. It makes the building look like it has sloped walls.

Wintrup is just a consultant, the property owner is Bill Eva.

The owner is a Bill Eva, that this will happen.

I'm so sorry for that.

Appears to be the owner of can oak flooring and head of the Manitoba chapter of the People's Party of Canada. Checks out that JW is representing him. He’s a pretty conservative guy. Ha ha.

We will see. Building a high rise is not easy for an inexperienced developer. Not a pretty building but would be good to have more people living in that area.

This is their first ground up project too, the developer has never built anything before.

Oof.

They don’t appear to have an architect either. The company on the drawings is a house drafting company.

$45 million project. Minimum. Good luck to them. I hope they can make it work.

Noticed it today as I was walking around downtown.

What ever became of the project to put the artistic lighting over the alleyway north of Portage between Smith and Donald?

The original intent seemed to be turning it into a summer "sidewalk" cafe or event space. From memory something like $200,000+ was spent on the lighting installation but then I never really heard anything more coming of it.

The space seemed ideal as the early 90s building that is now Dollarama only took up the front portion of the space leaving a surface parking lot behind the building, which this space would use, and it is immediately next to what is currently The Tipsy Cow which would seem to potentially operate as the kitchen and perhaps bar backend for the space.

Oh, that looks good! Anything to keep that lot from being used as a parking lot (which it has been since it was cleared over a year ago).
