Also in post 7 of this thread, I detailed some information from the city a year ago about the new industrial park south of the 401 between 59 and the 403. One new warehouse has been built by the owner of Site A on his property adjacent to the west of that site, off Ridgeway Cr, and there is work progressing on a foundation on Site A. There are also buildings starting to rise on Sites J and D, fronting on Pattullo Ave.
I'm hoping to acquire a drone soon and learn how to use it so I can take some better pictures of the various sites I come across during the day.
Oxford County votes to approve the proposal overruling the City of Woodstock. Looks like the City will appeal to the OLT which should toss the appeal out the door for wasting taxpayers money. The name of the game is density density density. The NIMBY's haven't got the message yet.
I got my drone a couple weeks ago and took it for some learning flights today with the weather finally nice enough at the same time as being at home and not working. Went over to the new construction industrial park on the south side of the 401 between highway 59 and 403 and took some shots of the buildings under construction and one that is built and is undergoing interior finishing.
The completed building is for Kuri Tec, a hose manufacturer currently located in Brantford and Guelph. They are expanding and adding this 140,000 sq ft warehouse to their operation, opening in the next couple weeks.
I heard about this, as I live just down the street, but I didn't realize that "driving through the entrance gate" actually meant "destroying the guardhouse" lol. Lucky no one was killed.
Not sure if this will have any ripple effects, but today, Toyota and Daimler announced they are merging their respective truck manufacturers, Hino and Mitsubishi Fuso into a new company. Merger set to take place in April 2026, with each company owning a 25% share and be listed on the Tokyo stock exchange. The Mitsubishi Fuso CEO will lead the new group. Hopefully this doesn't have negative effects on the future of the Hino truck plant in Woodstock.
Also, in the first post of this thread, and a couple follow-ups, I mentioned the Farhi subdivision proposal on the government property at Lakeview and Highway 59. The government buildings on this property have now been demolished.
This week, at the corner of 59 and Lakeview (across from the Farhi proposal), workers cleared the trees on the lot next to Tim Hortons (between the driveway and the apartment parking lot). Clerk in the Petro Canada store said she heard there were 4 commercial units going in there but she hadn't heard who yet. She also said Burger King was going in on the empty space immediately at the corner (on the right of the driveway off Lakeview). No clearing of that space yet but there are servicing flags on the ground.
Foundation is complete on the new plaza mentioned above at Lakeview and 59. They have also started digging for services for the rumoured new Burger King on the corner.
The new Turtle Island Public School on the north side of town off County Rd 17 is scheduled to open this Tuesday, Feb 17. Is a really nice looking school. Not sure yet if they are doing a full open or if it's only a few grades for the remainder of this school year and then fully open in September. One of my co-workers has kids that will be attending here, he lives a couple blocks away and currently his kids get bussed to Tavistock, 20km away. Needless to say, he is looking forward to fewer snow days lol.
