I think the Hotel is going to be a super hip spot, given Shapack's involvement in Soho House and the Hoxton.

Until the rest of the development is built, specifically the 600footer directly east.

By the time the 600 footer is built, the view to the west of Fulton Market should be pretty good

Not gonna lie, I still hope some of those heights get massaged up as buildings move forward.

Right now we just have massing, they'll go back before plan commission before each tower advances, similar to what's happening with Halsted Point.

I love how all these projects are jumping the river and into RiverWest. Its really going to help beef up the near north skyline. The additional residents in the area will also help liven up the streets as well. Lots of opportunity here to bring more retail and dining/nightlife east along Grand from the Halsted/Milwaukee intersection.

Bulk PD Approved...

Plan Commission approved Shapack Partners' planned multi-phase mixed-use project at 448, 449 & 509 N. Union Ave., 456 & 461 N. Milwaukee Ave., 708 W. Hubbard St. and 500 N. Desplaines St. in West Town. Phase one will convert a building at 509 N. Union Ave. into a 141-room hotel.

Future phases include up to 2,269 mixed-income residences in multiple buildings, plus commercial space and public plazas. The project would pay $11.9 million to the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund and $1.49 million each to the Local Impact Fund and Citywide Adopt-A-Landmark Fund.

Heights listed on the massing reference map:

625’
500’
400’
350’
125'

Just a few notes:

Phase 1… adaptive reuse of Salvation Army building (one side is timber and the other is concrete)

Long term stakeholders of area excited.

No no votes at the community meeting that was held (neighbors of river west)

And we're back.

After 3.5 years, demo at 458 N Union spotted.

The article is a bit dated so if anyone has more up to date info I'd love to find out. The project would certainly have a big impact on that neighborhood, especially considering its proximity to the new casino
