Looks like they used the huge mobile crane to lift the bridge super structure off the piers. Certainly the fastest way to get the steel out of the way.

True, but if she had just sold in 2015 we could have an updated Wharncliffe as of today.

I don't know what the time line was. Everyone likes to point at her, but she wasn't the only property that needed acquisition. It's been 2 years now, why didn't it start already then? Maybe other things had to happen anyway that still would have taken this long.

COVID hit, and then they went ahead with the Ridout bridge project instead, along with the Adelaide underpass.

They have been sinking steel pilings on the south bank on the east side of the abutment. Got around 20 feet of pilings installed. Moving very slow on this its seems.

Most of the new bridge concrete abutments are now complete. They are assembling the two steel arches now for their lift and installation which is tentatively scheduled for June 14th. Also crane crews are assembling the heavy lift crane which comes on 42 trucks and has to be assembled with smaller mobile cranes.

Looks like they have the heavy lift mobile crane assembled now. If they are still on schedule to lift the two steel arches into position next week we will soon find out.

Looks like the lift of the bridge arches will be next week. They are setting up a viewing area for spectators.

The east arch is now landed. The west arch may be lifted tomorrow or Thursday. The central concrete pier in the middle of the river will be removed once they get approval from the all the environment and natural resources authorities. Apparently they are not allowed in the river yet.

No progress on removing the concrete pier in the middle of the river as of yet. Not sure how they plan to safely break apart the massive concrete pier structure and remove it. Also none of the additional bridge steel has been added to the two arches either.

Seems that we need to almost double the budget for the temporary bridge costs due to project delays.

Just drove by the bridge for the first time - it looks nice. Does anyone know if it will be painted?

They have made good progress and have now removed the old central concrete pier in the middle of the river. They have installed the two top cross beams for the arches. Have nearly finished installing the hanging support posts and all the bridge deck cross beams. Just have the final cross beams in the middle of the span to install.

I can't wait to use this route to be open again, it was my preferred route downtown and back.
