FWIW, Montreal, which hosts the wildly popular F1 race, had issues with tickets/attendance when they hosted their Formula E race 4 years ago ...
Quote:
Figures released just before the Nov. 5 municipal election showed only 25,000 tickets were sold and 20,000 were given away to boost attendance numbers.

We can even say that the Formula E race ''fiasco'' was the main reason why Coderre lost its municipal election against Plante.

Because Montreal is a snobby F1 city. Would not be cool to attend an e car event.

the difference between F1 and FE is really ironic. While F1 is technology first but with "old" (carbon) technology, FE is "new" (electric) technology but caps the technology used.

The Formula E race was not on the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. It was in the East end in Hochelaga near the Jacques Cartier bridge. Just for that reason it was meant to fail.

They also don't host it on F1 circuits for the most part because the cars are nowhere near as fast as F1 cars, this is why street circuits are ideal because the top speeds aren't anywhere as close to what they would be on a full circuit.

Vancouver hosting Formula E World Championship electric vehicle race in 2022

The City of Vancouver is hosting an ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race next year, organizers announced Thursday.

The all-electric race is being held in the city's False Creek neighbourhood over the 2022 July long weekend, according to promoter OSS Group Inc.

Earlier this year, Vancouver city council voted unanimously in support of a multi-day Formula E event that would include a conference on climate change and sustainability.

Everyone is capping technology because either one team just runs away with the competition or they all spend too much money and can't fund a team.

We are buying tickets (gold) in the very near future and bringing 3-4 folks from out of province to take it in.

It's a few blocks from me but I bought GA tickets to check it out. I might be able to see some from my building rooftop as well.

Formula E season kicks off in Saudi Arabia in about an hour.

Same.. could they not get anyone else? Probably the only 'headliner' available.

LOL.

The Venn Diagram overlap of Nickleback fans and ELECTRIC car racers is...empty?

Maybe they thought it was going to be the same crowd that goes to Monster Truck events, or Indycar races? But seriously, E-racing enthusiasts are NOT the same people as the other groups!

I don't think high octane enthusiasts like Nickelback either - they want AC/DC and Metallica, not hard rock's Maroon 5.

The most passionate F1 fans I know are dads who wake up early with their kids on weekends, and decided to get into racing and Premier League because there was nothing else to watch...
