^ Nice links, guys. Manhattan's canyons are probably the greatest. They go on forever, plus many of them are lined with prewar buildings, which make them unique. No place on earth has that. Chicago probably has the closest thing to that, but even then it is nowhere even remotely close in scale.

funny, in chicago, because the street grid is true E-W/N-S, we have what we call "Chicagohenge" on every vernal and autumnal equinox, where the sun sets directly down the E-W skyscraper canyons of the loop.
it's kind of become a mini-event within the city every spring and fall.

How could I forget Tokyo? The streets in Kabuki-cho around Shinjuku station are something else - even if they lack the verticality of some of the other cities:

What this thread is teaching me is that I am far more impressed by canyons along wider boulevards that seem to go on far into the distance (ie Manhattan Avenues) than shorter canyons on super narrow streets where the street is basically overwhelmed.
