Do you have creative control over the camera settings? Or are those artfully-blurred auto lights just a function of the photos being taken in fading ambient light?

Either way: holy hell. Sweet, sweet shots.

The Mavic Mini does have manual control over the still photo settings. The blurred lights are a side effect of a long exposure, which is the best choice in low light if you want to keep the ISO (noise) down.

Notice Hull Island. The past years of high water and ice have wiped it clean to bare rock. I remember when it used to have some ground cover and even a small tree on it.

That's Lone Pine Island. Hull Island (Ile de Hull) is the downtown part of old Hull, now Gatineau, where Terrasses, the Museum, etc. are, bound by the Ottawa River and Brasserie/Brewery Creek.

The island got scraped the other spring in the flood, and again this year, but by summer, the weedy willows were already growing back quite nicely.

I'll respectfully challenge you on that. All maps, if they actually do show its name, call it Hull Island / Ile de Hull. If you can find one that calls it "Lone Pine" I'm happy to be proven wrong. But we probably don't want to spend too much time on it, either.

(Acknowledging that yes, old Hull is also called Ile de Hull, due to Brewery Creek.)

I've got a request - can you check out Le Viu 2 once it gets going?

Awesome stuff.

Coincidentally I just happened to pick up this 1913 tourist guide at a bookstore - so here's one mention at least:

I have never seen a map where that rocky thingy in the river is called "HulL Island".

That's interesting. That's some real Back to the Future stuff right there.

The first link that rocketphish shared says that it was called "twin pines island" in the past and the maps show "lone pine island".
