Lots of activity now with traffic shifts and excavation work for new sewers and utilities at the intersection. Still no activity of the Medway Creek bridge replacement. Timeline says work to start in 2025 on that.

Good to see some activity finally at the Medway bridge on Sunningdale Rd. Had one lane closed for a soil testing rig to the east of the creek.

Not sure why all work on the Sunningdale and Richmond intersection rebuild has stopped. Heavy equipment is gone. Is it any wonder that road projects take so long when work is stopped for no apparent reason?

Looks like some ministers were in town today for a photo-op to announce that the Province is investing $18 million to widen Sunningdale Road from Wonderland to Villagewalk Blvd. The project is expected to start next year.

Looks like contractor has abandoned the rebuild of the Richmond and Sunningdale intersection. ZERO equipment or activity on the site.

Really don't understand WHY they are passing up on the good weather to get this project completed sooner to end the disruption to the businesses and residents that travel thru here. Never ending trip to the dentist seems to be the goal of the city.

No, you don't understand because you don't have any information, and likely have little background in this sort of work. Nonetheless, they are incompetent/lazy/nefarious.

Here is an email update on this project:

———————————————

We’re reaching out to provide an update about the Sunningdale Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements Project.

The project team has unfortunately encountered high groundwater levels on-site, which has affected the installation of our underground infrastructure.

Dewatering is required before underground work for the project can continue. Given the extent of water that needs to be removed, the Contractor will be off-site until early September while the dewatering process is completed.

Unfortunately, this unforeseen challenge will affect the project schedule, and a portion of the construction project will have to be delayed to the 2026 construction season.

We understand this delay will be disappointing for everyone in the area, but please be assured that our team is working closely with the Contractor to minimize impacts where possible and to ensure progress is made efficiently once work resumes.

As soon as we have further details on the revised schedule, we will share a letter updating residents and business owners in the area to keep everyone informed.

They have put down a base coat of pavement on the north bound side of Richmond. Might be the last bit of work before they shutdown for the winter and return in the spring. This intersection rebuild was supposed to have been completed this year. Still no sign of any prep work to start on the new Medway Creek bridge. The latest plan was to start the widening of Sunningdale between Wonderland and Richmond after the rebuild of Sunningdale and Richmond intersection which has been delayed until 2026 now.

It looks like the widening of Sunningdale from Wonderland to the Medway Creek bridge (including the replacement of the bridge) is still set to start next year.

A virtual public meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at noon.

From this week's public meeting: The widening of Sunningdale from Wonderland to the Medway Creek Bridge will start next year, and Sunningdale from Richmond to the Medway Creek Bridge will start in 2027.

The widening includes sidewalks and bike paths on both sides, a pathway underneath the Medway Creek Bridge, and a traffic signal at Sunningdale and Meadowlands Way.

The Medway Creek Bridge replacement will also start next year and will take two construction seasons (2026 and 2027). The Medway Creek Bridge will be closed throughout the entire construction duration.

It was also mentioned during the meeting that since the grade of the bridge will be raised about 3.5 to 4 metres, they will not be able to stage the work that would allow
for the existing bridge to remain open, even in between the construction seasons. This effectively means that Sunningdale will be closed from Richmond to Wonderland for about 2 years.

Here are some renderings. We start at the Wonderland roundabout and head east near Richmond.

Multiple pieces of heavy equipment have been returned to the intersection of Richmond and Sunningdale as it appears they plan to start working again on the rebuild of the intersection. No signs yet of any prep for the start of the widening project of Sunningdale Rd between Wonderland and Richmond.

They have painted the southbound side lanes of Richmond now in prep for doing a traffic shift to that side. Work should begin soon on the northbound side of Richmond. They have also poured the sidewalks and paved the bike lane on the southbound side of Richmond.
