I don’t believe she is holding anything up on that project at this point. I don’t believe it was planned to happen for a couple years anyway.

Alot of work going on now with underground service replacement. Widening and digging will be major part of the summer efforts.

Will they be done by the time Labour Day arrives?

It's not supposed to be done until next spring.

I suspect the roadway will be done with curbs and a base asphalt layer before the snows come. Top coat and landscaping likely next spring.

One would hope, but the notice on the city site says phase 1 completion spring 2019 and nothing I quickly saw about when phase 2 is supposed to be done. Phase 2 being the Western Rd portion north of the new overpass.

A good portion of the north side curbs are now installed and grading being done. Would not be surprised to see traffic shifted over to the north bound lanes so the south bound roadway can be built.

The sideways are now installed on that portion of Western road and two lanes of traffic are graded. Would not be surprised to see it paved in the next few weeks and the traffic flow shifted over to start on the other side.

Traffic flow was shifted over the new lanes this week, north of the bend where Western Rd starts.

Noticed today that a hole was dug and foundation forms installed beside the plaza at the northeast corner of Oxford and Wharncliffe. Wondering if the Starbucks is moving into a new spot so the current one, which has about 3 feet from the front wall to the new curb on Wharncliffe can be demolished.

Plenty of frame twisting and rim bending potholes on the lanes that are open today. No wonder the traffic is so slow thru this stretch. No construction today due to the rain but one might think the city would have sent someone out to fill the potholes with some gravel.

The Western Rd stretch is pretty much all paved now. The Wharncliffe stretch has curbs most of the way up the northbound side to Western. Once the northbound side gets paved, they can move traffic back over and get curbs in on the southbound side.

This really seems to be dragging now. There still is no sign of curbs on the southbound side of the Wharncliffe stretch. The Western Rd portion was paved when I last posted 6 weeks ago, kind of surprised they haven't opened up the 2 lanes going north away from the construction zone by now.

Djeffrey, couldn't agree more. I rarely go up Wharncliffe/Western Rd but was in the area last Saturday. The Western Rd portion is ready to go, but at the Wharncliffe curve and south it looks like they've completely stalled on work. Hopefully they can still work in winter conditions, as keeping the road 2 lanes throughout the winter is unacceptable. I remember when Southdale was being widened Wharncliffe to Wnderland that construction crews were still laying asphalt and concrete curbs December near Christmas.

Overally though whenever the work is done, shouod be much better drivng. Just gotta get CN/Wharncliffe done and it'll be an awesome north south corridor!

Lack of urgency in the summer months to get things done and guess what they are late? Hopefully they clean up the contracting process to take advantage of the good weather and extra daylight and get projects like this finished on time and before the weather turns. Run two shifts of 8 hours when we have ~16 hours of daylight. Stage the work such that you are always moving along. Concrete pours on Friday to take advantage of weekend curing time. If there is going to be 20,000 man hours of work how you distribute them makes a big difference.

I would say staffing probably accounts for a big part of why not 16 hour days. It sounds nice to say x amount of person years, but you also need x amount of persons and the blue collar workforce isn't exactly burgeoning with people willing to do physical labour. Increasing the staffing to shorten the construction season is also going to lower incomes for those workers since it's not like the companies are going to add another major road project to keep them working. So now you risk losing that already tight workforce to other more stable industries.

With this project, I don't know what happened to slow it down, if it even has slowed down. I know it sure looks to my untrained eye like it's bogged down, as I said above, but maybe there's other reasons that we don't see. But it also seemed to me like they were making great progress earlier in the year, so I don't think it's as simple as saying they had bad planning and a lack of urgency.

Time is as valuable a resource as any other. Observing this project and the Dundas and York street projects I've noticed a great deal of TIME being wasted. They are all late and behind schedule.

Looks like they have seen my complaint and got a move on lol. Most of the paving is done now. Today they were paving the parking lot of that little plaza on the bend that the city had to buy. Shouldn't be a whole lot longer until it's good enough for winter. Still going to be a bit of work to do in the spring though.

I never quite understand why the hell it takes so long for them to pave a road? Even if they have to create a new one, I feel like it shouldn't take over a year and a half. If the main issue is short of workers, then why don't we promote it? We have kids spending thousands on degrees and diplomas that will be worthless because they won't be able to find a job, when the trades needs people. We should be promoting the trades early on, and getting kids more hands on opportunities and getting them informed about it.

Not to mention you can make tons more doing a trade job, than working other jobs.

Western Rd section of the construction is now open 2 lanes each direction. Still single lane in the Wharncliffe section.

Haven't been down this way for a few days up until today, but it was wide open all the way through now. Not sure when it actually opened.
