Nothing like an angry NIMBY for a good laugh

Planned Trans Am Rapture installation at south end of the Granville Street Bridge riles residents, petition asks Council to reconsider decision to relocate public art piece
https://cityhallwatch.wordpress.com/2025...nstallation-south-granville/#more-105120

They literally spent months to protect birds from entering it and the idiots are worried about pigeon feces. That lawn is covered with Canadian geese droppings not to mention the hundred crows that roost down there in the morning.

Who even goes to that side of the "park"? It's really just a landscaped traffic loop.

No worries, I drove across Granville Bridge yesterday (my go to bridge when leaving downtown) and it is easily spotted. It's still at the foundation base level, no pedestal yet.

They were painting the cars a few days ago so probably install is 2 weeks away. I guess the base will go in first.

Yeah, I'm surprised at the hate it gets. If you like cars then its a cool celebration of a Seventies icon. If you hate cars it is a statement on how all autos and the resources that go into them wind up as stacks of wrecks.

That got over 1000 signatures.
The anti-TransAm Totem one only has 182 signatures.

Probably more people walking along the seawall and better engagement. I mean the only people complaining are the people in the condos fronting the loop. The trees will probably be taller than the statue in a few years then they'll be crying to cut down the trees.

You can barely even see it with all the trees in that "park".

Residents push back against new location for Trans Am Rapture art installation

Nearly four years later, its relocation is drawing backlash with some residents saying it doesn't belong in a quiet residential area.

"They're treating our neighbourhood as a storage locker for a piece of art they don't know what to do with," said Darlene Forst, who lives across the street from the installation site and started an online petition against the move.

Forst said she only learned about the installation a couple of days ago through a notice that arrived in the mail. She believes the city should have consulted with residents before approving a decade-long placement of the piece.
Quote:
"It's gigantic and dominating," she said. "It's going to change the feeling of the neighbourhood from…family friendly and it's going to make it edgy and really not friendly."

She also raised concerns about the sculpture's past problems, including bird infestation, which led to rusting, peeling paint and bird droppings.

"I will just see a bunch of crushed cars, which … is going to end up being covered in birds and rusting and dropping guano all over the grass and killing the grass."

Rofl I love it. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty ugly, but the whole point of art is to get people talking and/or having an emotional experience. This has ticked both boxes. And I've been told in the past the best art makes people hate it.

Kudos to the artist.

I'm sorry, you live in between a busy six lane bridge and one of its offramps and you're calling it a "quiet residential area"?

from the nimby comments I've heard on radio and news they seem more upset that it is trailer trash art and not high brow. Just knowing that it exists in their precious realm is what bothers them.
