Ouch! Downgrade. It's certainly better than nothing. The residential tower is passable, but the execution of the terra cotta on the bases of the other two towers is just terrible.

A few updates with this project. They've filed a site plan with the city now:
https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=11055030

Also they've changed the name. It's now called Waller Park Place. And they buildings are listed as being a few floors taller than what we heard before with towers of 50+, 40+ and 25+ floors.

At the link is a drawing by the Downtown Austin Blog of the shape and location and rough height of the towers. According to this, the tallest one appears to be over 500 feet.

The other three highlighted lots are showing three other projects in the area. The 50-story Fairmont Hotel, the 39-story 99 Trinity Tower and the 16-story Hotel Van Zandt which just put up a crane this week.

Waller Park Place Submits Site Plan for 3 Towers

At ~1,400,000 square feet Waller Park Place, a three tower mixed-use plan is the largest private development ever proposed in downtown Austin (correct me in the comments if I’m wrong). It’s the vision of the Sutton Company, who formally filed their site plan approval application with the City of Austin last week.

N.Y. investment firm joins $400 million Waller Creek project

By Shonda Novak
American-Statesman Staff

A New York investment firm said Thursday that it has signed on as a financial backer of one of the most ambitious projects ever planned for downtown Austin, a move the developer said puts the $400 million project on track for a fall groundbreaking.

McCourt Global told the American-Statesman that its real estate venture, McCourt Partners, teamed with Austin-based developer the Sutton Co. to buy 3 acres along Waller Creek for the project, which envisions three skyscrapers, the tallest of which could be more than 50 stories. About 1.4 million square feet of development is envisioned for the project, which is tentatively being called Waller Creek Center. The development would include offices, apartments and condominiums, a hotel, shops and restaurants.

These designs are not good at all, and only slightly better than the last. :-(

I like the triangular tower somewhat, but the others bother me. The tall square one reminds me too much of Spring.

Former LA Dodgers owner to back new skyscrapers in Austin

McCourt Global, which was founded by developer and sports entrepreneur Frank H. McCourt Jr. and his sons Drew and Travis, is partnering with Austin-based Sutton Co. to build what was previously known as Waller Center, a $500 million mixed-use project near Cesar Chavez and Red River Streets along Waller Creek.

The Sutton Co. led by Chairman Mac Pike and President Wally Scott mostly has built condominium and commercial projects in Austin during the past 25 years. The Waller project was first announced in May 2013. It will include three high rise buildings that would be among the tallest downtown at 50 stories or more

I'm thinking McCourt and his money will get some good renderings out there for us.

Developers buy more land planned Waller Creek project
10:23 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 | Filed in: Business

More land has been acquired for a proposed mixed-use project on the banks of Waller Creek in downtown Austin that could allow for up to 2 million square feet of development.

The developers told the American-Statesman that they have acquired a 1.39-acre site at the southeast corner of East Cesar Chavez and Red River Streets, across from the Fairmont Hotel construction site. New York-based MG Properties, the real estate arm of McCourt Global, and The Sutton Co., based in Austin, said the purchase gives them the ability to develop their proposed Waller Creek project with potentially as much as 2 million square feet of office, apartment, condominium, hotel rand retail space.

The Austin American-Statesman did an article on the 70 Rainey tower, and it also mentions that the site plan will be released within the next few days for the Waller Park Place project.

The Waller Creek project has the potential to bring up to 2 million square feet of development in three towers, the tallest of which could top 50 stories. The developers behind that project are MG Properties, the real estate arm of McCourt Global, and The Sutton Company, an Austin-based real estate development firm whose principals are Mac Pike and Wally Scott.

“We will receive our site development permit in the next few days from the City of Austin which will enable us to finalize our plans,” Pike said. “We remain excited to get the project moving forward and seeing the Waller Creek project on its way.”

The site plan has been released with the building elevations - file 028. The elevations don't show the heights for Tower B, but it seems to be around 523 feet.

Tower A:

Office space, retail and parking
333 feet
26 floors

Tower B:
Residential, retail and parking
523 feet
45 floors

Tower C:
Hotel, residential, retail and parking
614 feet
53 floors

Signals of progress at Waller Park Place

This past weekend, fencing was observed being erected around the site of Waller Park Place, the largest private development ever proposed in downtown Austin. Demolition permits were issued back in August for the vacant structures along Red River Street. The new fencing is a sure sign that site prep is about to begin.

I love Austin but the skyline really needs some more daring and diverse architecture. Time to think "outside the box." The Frost Bank Tower is such a beautiful and unique building but it's slowly losing it's prominence.

These are most likely just placeholders. Besides, I wouldn't hold my breath on this anyway. They've been buying up land around there, but nothing has started. It seems more like a move to assemble lots and get entitlements on them and then sell.

And I'm fine with boxes as long as they're decent designs, but yeah, these look like they landed there rocket style. It's like another city's skyline was plopped down on the edge of our downtown. And I like blue and all, but geez, there are other colors.
