I'm pretty sure the entire bottom level is parking. They have two and in some places three levels of superstructure above that.

This article says Fall 2011, but it's a year old.. looks like they'll have to go full tilt to reach that target.

Anyone have any ideas on what will populate the current IKEA building? Though it is a small IKEA, it is a big space and doubtful just one tenant will fill it...

I'll do everything I can to avoid entering this new building. IKEA scares me....I sometimes worry that I'll get lost in it forever.

Ya, there are few other things that scare me as much as Ikea on a Saturday. Now I have to worry about even a bigger Ikea on a Saturday.

Keep in mind that the construction for this type of building is quite different than a condo building or something of that nature. It's basically a glorified warehouse. I do agree that they will have to go pretty hard to hit their Fall target, but I don't think it's too ambitious.

This is true, I hadn't really thought of that.

Just from looking at rakerman's picture updates, I can see it is progressing quite fast.

That was the original plan...Sears and Ikea would sorta switch places with a little construction in between

IKEA did indeed purchase the entire mall some time back.

The 2nd crane came down yesterday.

They have the steel frame basically done from both ends, highway 417 to iris.

Steel frame still there. Don't have a photo, but the small K on the side of the Ikea building blew off during the windstorm.

I drove by this monster on the way to work today (I don't normally have to take the 417) ... it is MASSIVE.

It's sort of strange that the south side of the new building is extremely close to the existing east end of the mall. I'm not sure how that is going to work for parking entrances and exits from that side of the new building.

They are going to demolish that part of the Pinecrest mall once they shuffle the existing tenant(s) to the old Ikea side.

Thanks for that information. I know that the Corbeil Appliance store is completely renovated and new, so will only the Sears Home store be moving over to the old IKEA site?

Any idea what else may go in that strip because there is no way the Sears could take up the entire space of the IKEA... unless they wanted to build a full size Sears, but I see that as extremely unlikely with Carlingwood Mall a stone throw away.

I also noticed the other day that there was a sign in the Southwest corner of the parking lot between the Chapters and the parking lot with a zoning application for a new one story retail building... any idea what this pay be as well? I could not locate the application online (I'm not very good with finding that stuff)
