They're not lying. They began digging up asphalt this morning (and pulling out lots of weird old wood, metal, and bricks from under the ground). Burnham Pointe is underway.

I was walking around the central city on Sunday, and was stunned at the number of highrises under construction. I lost count of the number of cranes early on. Always a beautiful sight...

BTW thanks for the rundown Steely Dan............

Aloft Millennium Park (Balbo and Wabash)

ECD’s newest downtown Chicago development will be Aloft Millennium Park. The development will include 13 floors of hotel as well as 5 floors of office and 5,000 SF of ground floor retail. We are proud to announce that we have recently signed a license agreement with Aloft by Starwood Hotels for this location and are planning to build the first Aloft in downtown Chicago. To learn more about the brand, please visit Starwood’s virtual tour at www.virtualaloft.com.

Located at the corner of Balbo and Wabash in Chicago’s “south loop,” Aloft Millennium Park is just three blocks from Chicago’s central business district and just one short block from the Grant Park/Millennium Park/Museum Park stretch of Michigan Avenue. ECD anticipates breaking ground on this project in March of 2008 with completion targeted for August of that year.

There was rumor that Broadway in Chicago was eyeing that theater behind the new hotel for renovation, etc. Would be a good idea considering three hotels will be established there in a few years.

It's the Getz Theatre and it's owned and operated by DePaul University's theatre department.

When are they gonna change the awful "Broadway in Chicago" name? It sounds so......second city? In a bad way.

How about something more confident, the Chicago Theatre District, something along those lines?

Not a merry Christmas for Folio Square residents

LOL, I guess they really don't want protesters and potential buyers near each other!

Now that Cityfront plaza phase 1 is just about topped out, has there been any word about phase II getting started?

Not only that but has it been confirmed which of the next two towers will be Phase II? Ive seen articles state that the 65 floor tower would be Phase II but Ive seen one, a long time ago, stating otherwise. There has been relatively little info known about this project considering its size.

Dan in Chicago--this is what I wrote on 9/12 about the Irving Park/Sheridan project. Also I believe the developer is Loukas Development.

"Irving Park/Sheridan
I attended the Buena Park Neighbors community meeting this evening regarding the proposed building at the southeast corner of Irving Park and Sheridan.
First, about the building: It is a 15 story proposal at a height of 180' designed by Pappageorge/Haymes. I didn't have a camera so sorry no pictures. Its nice, lots of glass. Building 87units with ground floor retail, parking for 125 cars on floors 2-5.
The meeting was very positive overall. The alderman seems to be behind it, as well as most of the 50 or so people attending. There was only a couple of strong objectors one of which was pretty hostile. The main concern people were voicing was traffic. According to the zoning attorney the land is currently zone so they could have 108 units so in exchange for less density than already allowed the developers want to go with a taller building."

I saw a sign at the addison red line stop with what looked like an advertisement for a loukas development

and It's address seemed to place it just around irving park
but if loukas was involved in that other TOD project south of the sheridan stop, it might have been for that

either way good to see hearty development around el stops

^^^ Yes it is the same developer as Lakeview Station, the project at Sheridan/Dakin. According Mr. Loukas they are planning to start marketing the Irving/Sheridan building towards the end of 2007.

They've already demolished the model for the Fairbanks in the sales center and are planning to start construction of the model for the second tower soon.

ALERT - Apparently some kind of tower crane has sprouted up along Ohio just west of Peshtigo. I though Parkview East was still a ways off. Anyone know what's going on?
