I've become a big fan of hers. She always speaks well and she seems to get what the community wants. It's to bad she isn't in my Ward. She'd have my vote.

Neat that Henday Dr is numbered like an American Interstate - "216", as a loop off of the Yellowhead, "16". I think it's the only city loop/highway bypass/circumferential road in Canada that does that.

Stoney Trail in Calgary is the same. (HWY 201)

Both are number like they are because they combined the numbers of the two main highways. #1 & #2 in Calgary, and #2 & #16 in Edmonton.

Stoney Trail is numbered Highway 201, looping off of Highway 1 I suspect that they did that on purpose.

hwy2+hwy16 = Hwy 216 in Edmonton
hwy2+hwy1 = 2-1 = 201 in Calgary

not hard to figure out

Aww, is that all? Would've been cool (in a geeky way) if there was a system to it like the Interstate numbering . Anyway, neat coincidence that "201" and "216" happen to follow the same rule for ring roads off of Interstates, wouldn't've been surprised if someone in Alberta Transportation was trying to make a logical system, or at least a nerdy inside joke, picking those numbers.

I think its still logical ring road 216 will connect you with either 2, or 16.

^Absolutely. I cant wait to cut my drive from the Park to the airport. I will be interested to see how much time I can shave off my trip.

When I used to live in the park (eastern end) I always took hwy 21 to airport road...
I wonder if this would save any time really?

It should make it quicker for my mother in law to get to work, from just north of AHD on 50 Street, to somewhere north of West Edmonton Mall. Although the lights on the SW portion are still going to be annoying, they might even be worse once the SE opens, becasue there will be more people wanting to take that road.

Southeast leg of ring road opens today

EDMONTON - The southeast leg of Anthony Henday Drive officially opens today, bringing Edmonton's ring road one step closer to completion.

Dignitaries and reporters are touring the road this morning. It is expected to be fully open to traffic by 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

The 11-kilometre stretch of freeway connects Calgary Trail and the Queen Elizabeth II with Highways 14 and 16 east, completing a ring linking the Yellowhead to the Yellowhead. With this part done, the province has two "legs" left to complete. First, the northwest corner, linking Highway 16 to St. Albert and the Manning Freeway, a project the province has out to tender right now. After that comes bridging the river at Clover Bar.

There are no traffic lights for the length of the southeast leg. There are 20 bridges, overpasses and flyways along it, with the highest overpass 20 metres above the road.

The province paid Access Roads Edmonton $493 million in constant dollars to build the road and operate and maintain the southeast and southwest legs for the next 30 years. Alberta has spent a total of $800 million on the ring road so far.
