They date from 300BC

That looks like it could have been built 1000 years ago or last year. Awesome photos. Is that in Cambodia???

The oldest stepwell we know to exist comes from 600AD, though most were built far more recently. One of the more spectacular examples you posted was built in 1500. A very impressive structure, still, but theses are not ancient.

Theyre 2300 years old, built by a particularly progressive rajah for the common people, whom also introduced vegetarianism, equality, animal hospitals, peace and prosperity after a Buddhist reeducation (he was once a violent and ruthless prince). They are all in India.
