RIP Johnny and Matthew, both taken way too young! Johnny was always a class act, never had a bad word to say about anyone. Still gave a shout out to Calgary and the fans after getting booed by us after he broke out hearts. Dude did what he thought was best for his family, and even though we took it hard here, we still respected him. Now his family has been torn apart in the worst way. Hope the driver gets a long sentence!

That's tragic! What a loss for that family on what was supposed to be a happy family gathering at their sister's wedding.

Horrific news. They will never rest in peace. I know I would never rest in peace if I were killed by a drunk driver, knowing the accuse will be forgiven with a lite sentence (anything less than 25 years is a lite prison sentence) for his lack of judgement when intoxicated. He will plead hardship, abusive childhood and first offense, yes I'm mad

After reading this CNN article, I am sick to my stomach. After time served and good behavior, He will serve 5 to 7 years...I'm losing it!

"Judge Michael J. Silvanio said the charges against him are punishable by a maximum of 10 years in New Jersey state prison."

'At the end of the court appearance, Higgins seemed apparently taken aback after he was told he’d be held at the jail pending his next hearing, saying to the judge: “So, I’m here until Thursday?”

RIP Johnny and Matthew. Sad to see one of the kinder faces of hockey gone.

Draisaitl 8 x $14,000,000 = $112,000,000

Damn

Oilers better pray that McDavid re-signs, otherwise that contract is going to be horrible. And for 8 years.

Why would that be horrible if McDavid doesn't sign as well? Draisaitl is one of the best players in the league, any team would sign him for that.

The memorial for Gaudreau outside the Saddledome is really something, real somber space full of people mourning. There is a concert there tonight, hope they can leave most of it up or put it all back after.

I presume there will be a special remembrance event for Johnny at the home opener.

Do you think they will eventually do something really special like retiring his number???

I'm sure there will be a tribute at the home opener, but when Columbus is in town Dec 3, that will be the main one I expect. Would be a class act by the Flames to retire #13, hope they do it.

No... no they wouldn't. McD makes him look better than he is. Frankly I think they overpaid, that contract will be a boat anchor. This contract will start when he is 30 years old. They'll be lucky to get 4 years of his prime and then the slide from there.

Hopefully he'll serve more than the four years Marco Muzzo served for the Neville-Lake children and their grandfather.

Impressed with the turnout in both Columbus and Calgary for the Gaudreau vigils last night, looked like a couple thousand in each city! I wonder if all teams will have #13 patches somewhere for the start of the season. Number might be retired in Both Columbus and Calgary as well.

I don’t recall the league doing that for other player or coaches that have passed. Wouldn’t have a problem with it though.

When was the last time a player of Gaudreaus calibre was killed mid prime?
