Fantastic, unique & a transformative improvement to the least hospitable part of Vancouver’s entertainment district. This was just some of the Development Permit Board’s lavish praise for the 720 Beatty St office building which they unanimously approved last week.
Driving through W.Georgia will become a new tourist attraction once the art gallery, 720 Beatty, 1515, and Hudson Bay are complete. Very interesting architecture is being built along this street.

Next time, you might want to think twice and write once.
Tourist attraction?

the signage up on the fence down on Expo Blvd say PHASE 1 OF 2 ........ so this is just the upgraded steam plant that is U/C. the office tower is a separate phase and is not green lighted yet.
excavator is on the lower part of the site (off Expo)

It's likely that the project has changed quite a bit from the earlier submissions. Creative Energy are waiting on the BCUC decision on their decarbonization project, which will see additional electric steam generators replacing some of the natural gas boiler capacity.
The final design of the Beatty Plant component of the Redevelopment Project is under review by the developer, Creative Energy, the Design Engineer, and the General Contractor. The design presented in the application that resulted in Order C-1-20 involved retaining three of the six boilers in place and abating and removing the three oldest boilers. An alternative configuration is being considered that would involve replacing the existing boilers and equipment at the Beatty Plant with all new equipment still on the Beatty property. This would allow the existing plant to remain in operation while the new equipment is installed and placed into service; the existing plant would then be removed. The alternative configuration is expected to improve the construction schedule, improve maintenance costs and efficiency of the steam plant (as a result of all new equipment), and reduce a great many of the risks associated with the Redevelopment Project and the construction of the office tower at 720 Beatty as compared to the original design.
Came across this archives shot from 1954 when the existing plant building was under construction - then for the Vancouver Sun press production facility.
You can see the old bus terminal on Larwill Park, the original Dunsmuir Tunnel entrance and the old Georgia Street Viaduct.
