It'll happen eventually. Look at how West Campus has grown. It went from building heights under 150 feet mostly, with the exception of The Castillian and the Dobie Center, to multiple high rises, including a few more over 200 feet, and now they've approved 300 feet for the area.

Maybe the City needs to start offering tax breaks other incentives for taller buildings to encourage vertical growth...

That's not the problem. There is market demand to build taller buildings already virtually everywhere in the city within a few miles of downtown. The problem is the City Council won't allow the market to work.

Some of those issues are being addressed with the current land use reform. If you want more extreme changes then try to get Pool and Alter defeated in 2020.

A site plan was filed today for a new building on the Oracle campus. No details.

After a little more digging, it turns out that the site plan change for another "office building" on the site is actually for a two-story, ~50K sq. ft. employee fitness center. Pretty nice for employees, a yawn for the rest of us.

This is the area on Elmont that Oracle bought (or at least bought part of). The apartments on the site were demo'ed several years ago.

Interesting little nugs in this WSJ article. They note Larry Ellison's conservative leanings, and bundle him in with other conservatives who've left California. But they're also at pains to note that no one from the CA HQ will be forcibly reloed to Austin, and Ellison himself is mum on whether he'll move. They also note that Oracle's annual CA state tax bill is teensy compared to its other liabilities, so not really even a precipitating reason to move.

So . . . why make the move at all then?

HQ hierarchy came to the conclusion that the majority who work at the HQ wanted to move would be my guess. Those executives happy with Cali can stay while those wanting a change can relocate to the HQ in Austin. The heavy hitters chose to relocate otherwise they wouldn't be moving the HQ. Great news for Austin and any way you look at it. Having a global HQ like Oracle is a huge feather in Austin's burgeoning tech scene.

Totally right, and i don't mean to naysay it. It's amazing no matter how you look at it.

I'll say this: I'm now officially confident about every project we know about . . . even the ones that George Blume sketches out on a bar napkin. Pretty much all of it's going to get built.

Burgeoning? The use of that word, in this context, assumes the "tech scene" is new to Austin. And we all know that is not the case.

Good thing Ellison downsized from his 453’ yacht “Sunrise” to the more sensible 288’ “Musashi”.
Maybe he can dock it next to his LB Lake campus.
