Another museum is moving, as Swamplot reports the Rice Art Barn will be disassembled and moved to the Fourth Ward.

8 story Sasol tower breaks ground in Energy Corridor:

Houston-based PM Realty Group broke ground last week on the fourth building of Woodbranch Plaza in the Energy Corridor.

Slated for delivery in April 2015, the 175,000-square-foot building is where Sasol, a South Africa-based international integrated energy and chemical company, will house its North American headquarters. The complex is at 12140 Wickchester Lane, near Dairy Ashford and Interstate 10.

The new building will share a fitness facility and cafe with Jacobs Plaza, which topped off on March 3, the same day as the groundbreaking. Both buildings, which are the same size, were designed by Houston-based Kirksey, with Houston-based Tellepsen working as the general contractor. PM Realty is also managing and leasing the complex.


California-based Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) will occupy almost half of Jacobs Plaza, with employees moving in August. The other 52 percent of the building is still open for lease.

To fit the proposed building on the lot at 1011 Studemont St., however, Fisher Homes needs a variance from the city that would allow a reduced setback on either Studemont or Court St. Its application was deferred at a meeting earlier this month, and is up for consideration by the planning commission this Thursday.

All but one of the units, according to text accompanying plans submitted to the city, would be single bedrooms. Access to the parking area would be through 2 separate driveways off Court St. There’s a gas station directly south of the .4412-acre lot; south of that, on the opposite side of Washington Ave, is the Memorial Heights apartment complex.

More signs that the housing shortage is having an impact. Fewer than 16,000 homes for sale implies a slowdown, as demand waits for supply to catch up.

Baybrook is expanding, as a new Dave & Buster's comes to the mall, which is adding half a million square feet of space.

Look out, Ol' Mack is back. Mattress Mack has plans for a second, bigger Gallery Furniture location in Fort Bend County. No surprise - the county gained 26,000 new residents in the latest Census estimate.

Block 365: 6-Story Residential Midrise

The project’s second community meeting drew about 40 parents, students, stakeholders and community members. Architects are aiming to complete the schematic design process in a few weeks and are currently working with structural engineers to develop a plan on how to fit the building structure to the architecture.

As much as it would have been a fun environment to go to school in, back in the day, the commute is going to be a nightmare - especially once the highrises go up on the neighboring properties. But some of us alumni are getting excited about the new building.
