WTF and this isn't even under a CVC? This would barely pass muster in the Domain these days.

I think we've all known for awhile now this isn't going to be a very tall tower. At least it's better than what's there now.

Yikes! That's just an embarrassing blue box... who the hell comes up with this stuff, and why do they still have jobs?

THIS lmao. No excuses whatsoever. I wasn't expecting a ton, but seriously can't believe it's another blue box.

They could have at least made it a silver, copper or black box... what a waste of potential (in one of the hottest real estate/development markets in the country no less). People willing to pay practically anything for condos and homes; constant corporate relocations and expansions... it's a willful ignorance of the economic and human trends and a complete unwillingness to build anything that integrates with and adds to the urban fabric. Very disappointing.

For a bank it seems like a bad investment. Land value will continue to skyrocket and this building won't have enough leasable space to make decent profits a decade out.

If the render looks like this, imagine what the value engineered version is gonna look like.

Ewwwwwwwwwww!
Yech!
This *might" be an improvement for downtown Wichita Falls. It would have eight floors of office space (less than three of the current office buildings currently in that city), and it would become the SECOND blue building in that city (and the first new high rise in that city for about 50 years).
As it is, it will be something like about the eighty seventh blue building in downtown Austin, but the good news is that in the coming years, it will probably become invisible amongst the future high rises surrounding it - you know, kind of like the Hyatt and the HG1.

This is purely a case of a company wanting to upgrade their digs and not thinking in broader terms about what could be built in a way that would have contributed to the neighborhood and housing market. I actually like this building, and I think the lighting design is going to be a pleasant surprise, but yeah, it's underwhelming and should have had 20 floors of residential stacked on top, at least, along with some more office space.

The worst part is that this is what the downtown density bonus program incentivizes. It does not incent housing. It does the opposite.

According to the Towers article, they had this to say about the height (or lack thereof):

"When the development appeared on the scene two years ago, some of our industry sources explained that Horizon is self-financing the project, and didn’t want to take on undue risk with a larger tower, since this building’s office levels and ground-floor bank space adequately meets their needs — and though we haven’t confirmed that with the bank, it’s the best explanation for 16 floors we’ve heard so far."

I think its scrimpiness makes it unique in a way. At least it won't be another cookie cutter tall box with blue glass.

5th Street is now fenced off in front of this site and the building looks stripped and empty. It appears as if demo could start any day.
