Eh, the politicians have lasting friendships with the construction industry. Nothing keeps friendships strong like 10M contracts!
In all seriousness I generally agree, however the GWCA is actually completing (not generally associated with government) with other large facilities in Chicago, Las Vegas etc, so I’m sure this is an aim to make it more pedestrian friendly and elevate the whole experience here. With critical mass being reached in this area with centennial yards, the new stadium, etc., it seems worth it to me. This is small change compared to the other large projects going in.
